You'd think it would only be funny to developers if the game is actually coming to the system.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, just officially announced today after months of rumors, might have a good chance of coming to Wii U this year, according to a few interviews with Joe Neate, producer at developer Sumo Digital.
"I'm sure there are still discussions ongoing about that at the... Read more...

"We are currently preparing a program for third parties but have nothing specific to announce at this time," a Nintendo of America representative told us earlier today.

Just heard this on the grapevine...
The 3DS will get a new Midnight Purple version in North America next month, Nintendo announced today.
The new grape-flavored variant is the fifth handheld color to join its multicolored brethren of Cosmo Black, Aqua Blue, Flame Red, and Pearl Pink since the system's launch last year, and will be hitting stores in the US on May 20, the same day that Mario Tennis Open launches. It sure isn't a good time to be the Wii right about now.
A release date schedule for notable upcoming 3DS, DS, and Wii games was released by Nintendo during the recent investors meeting.

Engine software's side-scrolling shooter lets players rotate the game world to get past obstacles, and we have an exclusive first look at the game's trailer.
Engine Software's upcoming side-scrolling shooter Flip The Core was described as labor of love at GDC, where Nintendo World Report first became aware of the game's existence. The developer's self-published side-scrolling shooter appears to "flip" the side-scrolling genre around by allowing players to rotate the game world, repositioning obstacles and enemies to get through dead-ends and tight spots.

Nintendo says things are looking up for 3DS. For DS and Wii, however...
Software and hardware sales forecasts regarding 3DS, DS, and Wii were revealed by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata at the recent investors meeting.
On the 3DS front, Nintendo predicts a 100 percent increase in software sales and an increase in hardware sales of almost 40 percent from the previous fiscal year. "From this fiscal term, we will be in the harvest time for the software sales of the Nintendo 3DS," Iwata explained.

UPDATE: Iwata dismisses possibility of "gatcha-type" sales of mystery items.
Nintendo is not and will not be in the business of selling mystery "gatcha-type" items as DLC according to CEO Satoru Iwata. As an example, Iwata said that Nintendo would "continue to make efforts to avoid such misunderstandings as, 'the next 'Animal Crossing' might be a game which relies upon add-on content sales.'"

The rules for 3DS downloads aren't changing just because the game's also available on a card.
When Nintendo begins releasing full 3DS retail titles via eShop this August, those titles will be tied to the specific 3DS system that downloads them in much the same way that the eShop exists for download-only titles today.
In the recent financial results briefing Iwata said "The digitally downloaded... Read more...

Japan and the U.S. have the highest connection rates.
The Japanese and U.S. markets have seen a steady increase in 3DS internet connectivity to their current rate of 70%, Nintendo revealed during their end-of-the-year investor's meeting.
This does not mean that 3DS owners in those two territories are necessarily playing games online, but only that they are actively connecting their systems to the internet. This rate is the highest that any of Nintendo's handhelds have ever achieved.

Nintendo has learned their lesson from the Nintendo 3DS launch.
The Wii U will launch with several content-rich titles, Satoru Iwata confirmed in the financial briefing.
The Nintendo 3DS, which launched in March 2011, was perceived as having a less-than-stellar launch lineup. The overall performance of the 3DS led Nintendo to drastically reduce the retail price just a few months into the system's lifespan.

Price details won't be revealed until after E3 2012.
Wii U will be out worldwide by the end of 2012, according to Nintendo's Satoru Iwata at Nintendo's end-of-the-year investor's meeting.

The loss is a little bit better than expected, but it still sucks.
Nintendo officially announced a 43 billion yen loss during the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2012.
It is nearly a 20 billion yen decrease from the 65 billion yen loss forecast in January, but that was mainly because of an unanticipated depreciation of the yen over the past few months. Their sales were actually down 12 billion yen from their previous estimate.
