Nintendo World Report highlights the best of the year that was.

Like the GameCube's GOTY, it's obvious which Wii game is the best launch title. Instead of keeping you in fake suspense, we thought we should tell you what the second-best game on the Wii is—or better said, the NWR Award for Best Wii Game that Isn't Zelda. Because you know, you'll need something else to play eventually...

Wii – Best Game That Isn't Zelda

The NWR Award

Wii Sports

...and it just so happens that something is packed-in with your Wii console. Even though it looks like there isn't much to do in Wii Sports, you just have to come back to it over and over again because it's too much fun to try to better your high scores or play against friends. Nintendo said the Wii would change the way we play games. Wii Sports is the best early example of how right they were.

Runner-up (tie): Excite Truck

The term we threw around the office when describing Excite Truck was how much “stupid fun" it was. Ultimately, stupid fun is still fun. Even with its shortcomings in key areas (music, multiplayer), flying around giant tracks and bouncing trucks into each other is great to do with the Wii remote. Try it. You'll like it!

Runner-up (tie): Trauma Center: Second Opinion

'Twas one of the best DS games in 2005. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, so Atlus didn't. The game is essentially a Wii port of the handheld game, but with a new features, new story elements and a shiny new coat of paint. If you haven't played the DS game, there's little excuse to skip out on this one.

Also Nominated:

Madden NFL 07

Before moving on, we'd like to point out that the four games mentioned on this page are the same games we listed as winners and nominees for the Wii Best Use of Controller category. Do you think there's a reason for that?
