Nintendo World Report highlights the best of the year that was.

The 2006 NWR Awards

The year 2006 is over. Done. Finished. Finito. It was a big year for Nintendo, seeing the worldwide release of the Wii, the retirement of the GameCube, the Game Boy Advance's last hurrah, and the continued dominance of the Nintendo DS. There were many Nintendo games released in '06, but only a few can be considered the best. That's where we come in.

The 2006 NWR Awards are given out to the top games and news makers of the past year. This is the sixth year we've done this, and it's turned out to be our biggest year ever. With four Nintendo platforms out simultaneously, we've got more than 25 honors to hand out, including those in new categories. Most of the pomp and circumstance will go to the Wii and DS, but there were still some notable games on the GameCube and GBA that will be recognized.

Although there can only be one winner in each category, runners-up and any other games nominated should also be considered some of the best of the year. Just because it didn't win doesn't mean it's not a good game! You can discuss all the winners (and non-winners) in the Talkback thread for this feature.

Without further ado, let's begin the awards ceremony.
