The 2006 NWR Awards

Wii - Best Virtual Console Game

by Steven Rodriguez - January 1, 2007, 9:01 pm EST

Nintendo World Report highlights the best of the year that was.

Oh Virtual Console, how we love thee. You'll let us play all of these old classics on our Wii consoles. But which ones should we get? Why not start with the NWR Award winner for Best Virtual Console game?

Wii – Best Virtual Console Game

The NWR Award

Gunstar Heroes - Genesis

With Nintendo releasing perennial favorites such as Soccer and Baseball, the winner was sure to come from one of Sega's or Hudson's heavy-hitters. Gunstar Heroes for the Genesis gets the nod for its crazy-insane co-op shooting action. It's hard as **** too, but that's to be expected from a game developed by Treasure. It's also expected that they make awesome games, and happily, Gunstar Heroes is SO awesome.

Runner-up: The Legend of Zelda – NES

Link's first adventure is still one of his best. To have such an expansive an innovative game be released so early in the lifespan of the NES is astonishing. It's also one of the best deals on Virtual Console at five bucks. Sure, it doesn't come in a gold cartridge, but you'll be paying a lot more than 500 Wii Points if you want one of those babies.

Also Nominated:

Bomberman '93 – TG16

Solomon's Key – NES

Super Mario Bros. - NES

F-Zero - SNES

Super Mario 64 – N64

Too many other awesome games to be listed here
