The 2006 NWR Awards

Most Surprising Game

by Steven Rodriguez - January 1, 2007, 7:56 pm EST

Nintendo World Report highlights the best of the year that was.

Every once and a while a game comes out that is unexpectedly good. The little or negative hype generated from a game can be instantly reversed when we finally get our hands on such a title. The NWR Award for Most Surprising Game goes to the one that was the best of them.

Most Surprising Game

The NWR Award

Wii Sports Nintendo Wii

A bunch of mini-games packed-in free with the console? It didn't look like much on the surface, but once we got into it, we all saw how addicting bowling, baseball, tennis, golf and boxing could be using the Wii remote. Also surprising is how fun it is with multiple players. The ability to use custom Miis just puts it over the top. Wii Sports is just plain fun.

Runner-up: Drill Dozer Game Boy Advance

Remember this one? Game Freak decided to take a break from showing us their Pokémon and drilled out this great little action game. Given the development team, we expected it to be good, but we didn't know how good until we tried it out. Seriously, it's really good!

Also Nominated:

Elite Beat Agents Nintendo DS

Excite Truck Nintendo Wii

Rayman: Raving Rabbids Nintendo Wii
