The 2006 NWR Awards

Game Boy Advance - Best Graphics

by Steven Rodriguez - January 1, 2007, 8:37 pm EST

Nintendo World Report highlights the best of the year that was.

The GameCube has passed on, and it looks like the Game Boy Advance is the next to go. The Nintendo DS is a superior system, but that doesn't mean the GBA can't crank out some sweet looking graphics. The game that does it the sweetest gets the NWR Award for Best GBA Graphics.

Game Boy Advance – Best Graphics

The NWR Award

Drill Dozer

The GBA isn't known for pushing polygons, so style, color and fluidity make or break game graphics. Drill Dozer has all three, and has it in droves. “Cute" was a word brought up many times when describing the game's art, but that doesn't take anything away from how good the game looks. Let's hope there are more Advance games in 2007 that look as good.

Runner-up: Final Fantasy V Advance

Square-Enix, we love you for bringing FFV to the GBA. We should say that you didn't do too much to improve upon the looks of the original, so it does look a little dated. Even though it's got good graphics for a handheld, they weren't good enough to take top honors in this category. Better luck next year with FFVI Advance.
