The 2006 NWR Awards

Wii - Best Sound

by Steven Rodriguez - January 1, 2007, 8:52 pm EST

Nintendo World Report highlights the best of the year that was.

The Wii has arrived! It's been out not even two months, yet there have already been some good games released for it. Our first Wii category is the NWR Award for Best Wii Sound, in which the winner is the game that sounds better than the rest.

Having already claimed a few honors in the GameCube category, Link returns to dig up the first prize in the Wii discipline. Part of why the Zelda experience is so grand is because of the incredible use of sound. The Wii controller speaker adds to that (though not everyone approves of sound quality). You can't go wrong with those classic rearranged Zelda tunes, either. Although we're still waiting on an orchestrated soundtrack, what's heard in Twilight Princess is hard to forget.

Runner-up: Excite Truck

Some people on staff thought the music in Excite Truck was terrible. Though not everyone is in the same boat, there's one thing we do agree on: Get an SD card. You'll need one to take advantage of one of the best features to be found in a Wii launch game. The ability to use your own music as background music is something Xbox owners have been enjoying for years now, and now Wii owners can enjoy that thanks to Excite Truck. The game is awesome with your favorite music accompanying truck smashin', which is why we deemed it worthy enough to be second banana to Zelda.

Also Nominated:
