Nintendo DS - Best Use of Touch Screen

Nintendo World Report highlights the best of the year that was.

There have been a lot of good DS games that don't really use the touch screen. That is to say, they could have been good games had it not been there. We wanted to give some mad props to the game that uses it like it was meant to be there, so here's the NWR Award winner for Best Use of Touch Screen.

Nintendo DS – Best Use of Touch Screen

The NWR Award

Elite Beat Agents

Part of the EBA experience is the music. Another part is the wackiness that goes on as songs unfold. The third part is the use of the touch screen in EBA, and that's the big reason why the game works so well. It feels like you're dancing as you tap, drag and spin around all four corners of the lower DS screen. Ouendan's gameplay was pretty good, but iNiS improved the note placement and flow for EBA considerably to make it way better than anyone could have expected. An experience like Elite Beat Agents can only be had with the DS touch screen, and for 2006, it did it better than anyone.

Runner-up: Metroid Prime Hunters

Although it can be somewhat uncomfortable over a long period of time (especially if you have one of the original DS models), controlling a first-person shooter with the touch screen worked pretty damn well. The fast-paced shooter needed a fast-paced control option, and Hunters provided that.
