Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure Character Guide

Earth Characters

by Neal Ronaghan - November 1, 2011, 12:00 pm EDT

The Earth users burrow and make stuff come out from the ground.

Prism Break, Bash, and Terrafin are the three Earth characters available now, though Terrafin is only available in the Pirate Seas Adventure Pack. Bash also comes in legendary form.

Prism Break
Type: Earth
How to get: Individual, 3-Pack (w/ Boomer and Voodood)
Variations: None
Abilities: Energy Beams, Shard Summon

Prism Break looks a lot different than he actually plays. You'd think, since he's a pile of rocks, he'd be a bruiser with strong melee attacks. Instead, he has ranged energy beams that can be shot in different directions by bringing up shards of crystal from the ground. These shards can also damage enemies.

Bash
Type: Earth
How to get: Individual, 3-Pack (w/ Eruptor and Chop Chop), Legendary 3-Pack (w/ L. Chop Chop, L. Spyro)
Variations: Legendary Bash, Iridescent Blue Bash (Toys R Us Exclusive)
Abilities: Tail Swipe, Rock Roll

Bash is a dragon who can't fly, but he can, well, bash. He swings his tail and rolls around as a ball to attack enemies. He can also summon pillars of earth to damage foes.

Terrafin
Type: Earth
How to get: Pirate Seas Adventure Pack
Variations: None
Abilities: Shark Punch, Earth Swim

At first glance, Terrafin seems like he should be a Water user. However, he's a burrowing dirt shark. He's primarily a melee fighter, as he uses powerful punches and belly flops to great effect.

Dino-Rang
Type: Earth
How to get: Individual (Wave 2), 3-Pack (w/ Zap and Hex)
Variations: Silver Dino-Rang
Abilities: N/A

Dino-Rang is a dinosaur who wields boomerangs, which when you break it down, is pretty self-explanatory.

I've almost gotten through all of the game on the 3DS you can with the starters, I think I'm about 3 crystals shy.  On Stealth Elf, who I have maxed, on the 3DS game can you leave dummies to distract enemies?  If so how.  I know about getting a dummy that stuns when she's hurt and stealthed but I haven't been able to do the other move which I've seen in the trailers for the bigger version.

You know I may have less.  I might just need the 3 Chests from the last level of Galecrack Ruins (The Undead level.) to finish the Crystals up.  I know my Wife is hiding more figures, both expansion packs, and the PS3 version from me for Christmas and my Birthday... Which Stinks.

I'm might try to see if I can find them and Portal them into the 3DS without taking them out of the box.

I also fear that the 3DS version is the vastly superior game because I like the platforming and the chase element of it.

Also Fun Factoid once you do the collect Cupcakes crystal a Cupcake will show up on Radiant Isle like the Teddy Bears and Flamingoes etc but, the Cupcake will turn you Skylander tiny when you eat it.

So this is a good game and is great for players who like collectables. I might be buying this.

I gave it a 7 out of 10 because of the cost but, the 3DS game really is good if you like Action Platformers.

No mention of the Volcanic Vault?  It opens an extra battle map in the Wii/PS3/360 versions...  Exclusive to Best Buy in the Wii/PS3/360 Starter Packs.

Are the characters cross platform compatible? If I buy the 3DS version, can I use the figures on the Wii, assuming I have the game disk?

This sounds like an interesting game. Skylanders or Mario 3DS?  ( I will be able to get Mario for a long time in the future)

Thanks :)

Yes, the figures work across all versions, and all your customizations are saved to them and transfer between games. And while I love Skylanders for 3DS, there's no way I'd take it over Mario.

Good catch. I forgot Best Buy had an exclusive for this.

Yeah, and it stinks.  I had to pay ~$20 on eBay for it. :(
And it doesn't work with the 3DS version.

I've heard there's issues with the Mac version - there was a work around posted on one of the GameFAQs/Skylander's forums (not the one for the Mac version, but one of the other versions) that might work for you.

it.. its still not spyro to me. its not my fourth fav game ever.

Think you're done until Giants? Think again.

tl:dr version - someone hacked the console versions and discovered there were four "pets" (that act like magic items) - miniature versions of Stealth Elf (Whisper Elf), Gill Grunt (Gill Runt), Trigger Happy (Trigger Snappy) and Terrifin (Terrabite).

Apparently, these are going to somehow tie into a Frito Lay promo in July.

I love/hate this game so much.

Tell me about it.  I'm only needing Wham Shell (aside from the super-rare variants) - I've got one coming in the mail, but I don't count it until it's in my hands. :D

I finally got Dragon's Peak. I need Wham-Shell, Warnado, Camo, Zook, and Lightning Rod. I'm not too worried, since single characters for nearly every other character are pretty easy to find right now.

I'll just keep on being that weirdo scoping out the Skylanders at Toys R Us during lunch every now and then.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorApril 24, 2012

Zook and L-Rod seem to be becoming more common.  I haven't seen Camo or Warnado since I picked mine up.  I've never seen Wham-Shell. :(

Very enjoyable game.  Wife and I play it all the time on PS3.  Very reminiscent of Gauntlet Legends.  Wish it wasn't such a money sink though...my wife tends to get obsessed with collectables, and while we don't have all of them, we have to at least have 20-25 skylanders, including the legendary ones.
