Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure Character Guide

Magic Characters

by Neal Ronaghan - November 1, 2011, 11:59 am EDT

The three Magic characters not named Spyro.

In addition to Spyro and his Dark and Legendary forms, there are three other Magic-based characters: Voodood, Wrecking Ball, and Double Trouble. Voodood was released at the launch of the game, and Wrecking Ball and Double Trouble came out in waves two and three. Just so you know, Magic users are weak against Tech users.

Voodood
Type: Magic
How to get: Individual, 3-Pack (w/ Prism Break and Boomer)
Variations: None

Voodood is a shaman-looking fellow who wields an axe that he can use to attack opponents with magical energy up close, or use as a grappling hook to bring enemies in close. As you progress through the game, he also gets the ability to lay down an electrical tripwire, which can be used to great effect.

  • Starting Abilities: Axe Reaver (melee axe attack), Zipline Axe (basically, an attacking hookshot)
  • Initial Upgrades: Magical Tripwire Bomb (Z button releases a tripwire that does damage when enemies walk through it), Weighted Axe (axe does more damage), Tripwire Reserves (summon up to two tripwires), Extended Blade (zipline is faster)
  • Elementalist Path: Roadblock Tripwire (increased tripwire length and damage), Electric Feedback (anytime you get hit, you release energy, damaging nearby enemies), Electro Axe (axe attacks do damage to surrounding enemies)
  • Marauder Path: Shaman Style (axe combo attacks), Legendary Blade (axe attack does more damage), Hyperwire (zipline is faster and does more damage)
  • Soul Gem Ability: Impervious Tripwire (tripwire deflects projectiles; found in Arkeyan Armory)
  • 3DS Abilities: Axe Smacks (starting; melee attack with axe), Electromagnet (starting; shoot beam that functions like the zipline), Max Axe (level 4; charged axe attack), Voodash (level 7; attack while sprinting, ending with an upward slash), Foe Zapper (level 9; automatically attack enemies every few seconds), Mystic Seeker Scroll (20% damage bonus; found in Breakmarsh)

Double Trouble
Type: Magic
How to get: Individual, 3-Pack
Variations: None

Double Trouble is a tiki man with the ability to conjure up diminutive duplicates of himself that blow up when they hit something.

  • Starting Abilities: Eledritch Beam (homing beam attack), Conjure Exploding Double (Summon a clone that runs into enemies and explodes)
  • Initial Upgrades: Arcane Eldritch Beam (beam does more damage), Conjure Unstable Double (clones do more damage), Summon Magic Bomb (use a magic bomb), Advanced Construct Techniques (three clones active at once)
  • Channeler Path: Extended Eldritch Beam (beam has longer range and does more damage), Magical Cataclysm (bombs do more damage), Magic Armageddon (rapid-fire bombs
  • Conjuror Path: Imbue Construct (hit a clone with beam and it increases in size), Rocket Power Doubles (clones launch themselves at enemies and do more damage), Spirit Construct (clones form automatically after enemies are defeated)
  • Soul Gem Ability: Waterwalker (Can fly over water; found in Lair of Kaos)
  • 3DS Abilities: Lightning Staff (starting; casts an electric attack), Double Up (create a clone that can explode on enemy contact), ??? (level 3), ??? (level 6), ??? (level 9), Mystic Seeker Scroll (???; found in Galecrack Castle)

Wrecking Ball
Type: Magic
How to get: Individual, 3-Pack (w/ Stealth Elf and Sonic Boom)
Variations: Glow Wrecking Ball

Wrecking Ball is a big, giant grub worm that ate a bunch of stuff and became huge. He goes around using his tongue and his flatulence to best foes. He's pretty much adorable.

  • Starting Abilities: Tongue Whap (shoots out tongue to do mid-range attacks), Forcefield Ball (shoot across the stage as a magic-enhanced pinball)
  • Initial Upgrades: Magic Ball Control (increased ball damage and allows user controls), Power Belch (a burp attack that is enhanced after eating stuff), Tongue Evolution (tongue range and damage increased), Digestive Detonation (charge burp attack for more damage)
  • Total Tongue Path: Lightning Tongue (increases tongue attack speed), Tongue Grabber (increases tongue damage; tongue can pick up items), Tongue Supermax (even more tongue range)
  • Ultimate Spinner Path: Forcefield Blast (ball creates explosion), Swath of Terror (ball attack increases in size and damage), It's Gotta Go Somewhere (more powerful burp attack during ball attack)
  • Soul Gem Ability: Enemy Slurp (swallows small enemies for health; found in Quicksilver Vault)
  • 3DS Abilities: Slurp (starting; tongue attack), Burp (starting; release burp gas), Clump (level 2; roll into enemies to do damage), Gulp (level 5; slingshot using tongue), BURRRP! (level 8; charge up a massive burp to do area damage), Mystic Seeker Scroll (20% bonus to health; found in Aurora Peak)

Talkback

I've almost gotten through all of the game on the 3DS you can with the starters, I think I'm about 3 crystals shy.  On Stealth Elf, who I have maxed, on the 3DS game can you leave dummies to distract enemies?  If so how.  I know about getting a dummy that stuns when she's hurt and stealthed but I haven't been able to do the other move which I've seen in the trailers for the bigger version.

You know I may have less.  I might just need the 3 Chests from the last level of Galecrack Ruins (The Undead level.) to finish the Crystals up.  I know my Wife is hiding more figures, both expansion packs, and the PS3 version from me for Christmas and my Birthday... Which Stinks.

I'm might try to see if I can find them and Portal them into the 3DS without taking them out of the box.

I also fear that the 3DS version is the vastly superior game because I like the platforming and the chase element of it.

Also Fun Factoid once you do the collect Cupcakes crystal a Cupcake will show up on Radiant Isle like the Teddy Bears and Flamingoes etc but, the Cupcake will turn you Skylander tiny when you eat it.

So this is a good game and is great for players who like collectables. I might be buying this.

I gave it a 7 out of 10 because of the cost but, the 3DS game really is good if you like Action Platformers.

No mention of the Volcanic Vault?  It opens an extra battle map in the Wii/PS3/360 versions...  Exclusive to Best Buy in the Wii/PS3/360 Starter Packs.

Are the characters cross platform compatible? If I buy the 3DS version, can I use the figures on the Wii, assuming I have the game disk?

This sounds like an interesting game. Skylanders or Mario 3DS?  ( I will be able to get Mario for a long time in the future)

Thanks :)

Yes, the figures work across all versions, and all your customizations are saved to them and transfer between games. And while I love Skylanders for 3DS, there's no way I'd take it over Mario.

Good catch. I forgot Best Buy had an exclusive for this.

Yeah, and it stinks.  I had to pay ~$20 on eBay for it. :(
And it doesn't work with the 3DS version.

I've heard there's issues with the Mac version - there was a work around posted on one of the GameFAQs/Skylander's forums (not the one for the Mac version, but one of the other versions) that might work for you.

it.. its still not spyro to me. its not my fourth fav game ever.

Think you're done until Giants? Think again.

http://forum.darkspyro.net/spyro/vie...hp?topic=51397

tl:dr version - someone hacked the console versions and discovered there were four "pets" (that act like magic items) - miniature versions of Stealth Elf (Whisper Elf), Gill Grunt (Gill Runt), Trigger Happy (Trigger Snappy) and Terrifin (Terrabite).

Apparently, these are going to somehow tie into a Frito Lay promo in July.

I love/hate this game so much.

Tell me about it.  I'm only needing Wham Shell (aside from the super-rare variants) - I've got one coming in the mail, but I don't count it until it's in my hands. :D

I finally got Dragon's Peak. I need Wham-Shell, Warnado, Camo, Zook, and Lightning Rod. I'm not too worried, since single characters for nearly every other character are pretty easy to find right now.

I'll just keep on being that weirdo scoping out the Skylanders at Toys R Us during lunch every now and then.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorApril 24, 2012

Zook and L-Rod seem to be becoming more common.  I haven't seen Camo or Warnado since I picked mine up.  I've never seen Wham-Shell. :(

Very enjoyable game.  Wife and I play it all the time on PS3.  Very reminiscent of Gauntlet Legends.  Wish it wasn't such a money sink though...my wife tends to get obsessed with collectables, and while we don't have all of them, we have to at least have 20-25 skylanders, including the legendary ones.
