PGC E3 2006 Awards

Game of Show – DS

by Michael Cole - May 22, 2006, 6:48 pm EDT

The PGC staff picks its favorites from the year's biggest funfest!

This award goes to our favorite Nintendo DS game that was on the showroom floor.

PGC's E3 Awards 2006!

Winner: Elite Beat Agents

Mike Gamin: Thanks to all of the importers on staff, I got to play Ouendan for the first time right before the show started and I was hooked. Then I see Elite Beat Agents on the floor, and I'm ecstatic. Expect even the people who imported to pick up this version, as it is essentially a sequel. I know I will be getting both.

Karl Castaneda: I've been wanting to play Ouendan for a while now. Elite Beat Agents isn't quite the same game, but the premise and quirky humor have been left intact, which is all I need to know to be sure that I'll love it.

Michael Cole: Ouendan has a huge underground following here in North America. Hopefully those who attended E3 now understand why. Elite Beat Agents has a unique brand of visual and situational humor that genuinely ties in with the music's lyrics and timing. iNiS is clearly putting their heart into the game, from graphical polish to song selection, making Elite Beat Agents one not to be missed.

Runner-up: Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

Steven Rodriguez: The amazing 2D art and the 3D characters put together make for an extremely pretty DS game. The two-character mechanic will make for some good puzzles and gameplay action when it's all said and done. And hey, it's Castlevania on the DS. How can you not love it?

Mike Gamin: Not to take anything away from either of these titles, but one of the main reasons they are here is the fact that Phantom Hourglass controls with the stylus. Nintendo is taking a big risk with that title and I think this category reflects our concerns.

Evan Burchfield: Though both of these games are deserving, I didn't see a single person say anything negative about Chibi Robo on the DS. The guy sitting next to me had been playing it for fifteen minutes when I sat down to play, and didn't leave when I was done with the demo ten minutes later.
