The PGC staff picks its favorites from the year's biggest funfest!
This award goes to the racing game with the best handling and design, regardless of Nintendo platform.
Winner: Excite Truck
Daniel Bloodworth: While others may not be as impressed, I think Excite Truck was probably the easiest game to pick up and play at the show. Since the NES days, every kid playing a racing game has tilted their controllers in vain. Now, that’s the only way to steer. Plus, not only can you tilt left and right like a steering wheel, but tilting forward and backwards gives you the added control needed to make a perfect landing in rough terrain – something traditional wheel controllers always lacked.
Karl Castaneda: GameCube owners missed out on the latter half of the Burnout franchise, but Nintendo seems to be making up for it with a great arcade racer of their own on the Wii. With intuitive controls and what looks to be addictive gameplay, it could very well be the breakout hit at launch with casual gamers.
Jonathan Metts: Despite the goofy name, Excite Truck is really, really fun. I could do without the faux Burnout crashes, but this is actually one of my favorite Wii games at the show.
Michael Cole: After actually playing Excite Truck, we quickly abandoned our oh-so-endearing nickname for the game.
