New (old) ways to play!

Price points regarding the GameCube adapter for Wii U, the Smash Bros. GameCube controller, and a game bundle including all of the above have been revealed.

The adapter will let up to four original GameCube or WaveBird controllers play on the Wii U, and will have an MRSP of $19.99. The new GameCube controller is emblazoned with a Smash Bros. logo, and will sell for $29.99. Or, for $99.99, a special bundle will be available that includes Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, one GameCube controller, and one adapter.

The game, controller, and adapter are scheduled to release on the same day during this holiday season.

Very fair pricing , I'll probably just stick with Classic Controller Pro, I want to see what the special Nintendo controller looks like

AdrockJune 10, 2014

I was just going to buy the adapter, but that bundle saves me $10 for a controller I don't need. Decisions!

Ian SaneJune 10, 2014

Alright, I can get a new Cube controller!  I was afraid it might only be in some SSB bundle.

Leo13June 10, 2014

Dang I was really hoping they'd announce Gamecube VC

steveyJune 10, 2014

The bundle is just the excuse I needed to buy a new cube controller.

Huh, the bundle seems a bit pricey.

The new GameCube controller plugs into the Wiimote, not the GameCube adapter, right?

StratosJune 10, 2014

I may just have to get this bundle. Good deal and some awesome extras.

It's pricey for what it is, but the game, controller, and adapter are more expensive separately ($60+$30+$20).

There were two separate announcements. PDP is releasing a Nintendo licensed Gamecube-inspired controller that plugs into the Wii Remote. Then, like a week or so later, Nintendo stole their thunder entirely and announced they're releasing a Gamecube adapter (which uses two USB ports) that accepts actual Gamecube controllers. Nintendo is also re-releasing wired Gamecube controllers just for Super Smash Bros.

So you're saying that this new GameCube controller does plug into the adapter? And it will work on an actual GameCube/Wii as well?

Wow, Mario Kart 8 already has seven controller icons on the back of the case. I can only imagine how many Smash Brothers will have...

I still want to know if this adapter works on the second generation Wii and Wii Minis.  Someone at E3, ask for me, will ya?  Also, go get me one of those exclusive Skylanders things. :D

nickmitchJune 11, 2014

Definitely getting that bundle.  Hopefully I can use the length of the adapter to increase the reach of the GC controllers.  That's pretty much the only reason I never used my wired controllers (which I should probably dig up).

Will it work in wii mode?

*checks Wii U*

Thank goodness it has FOUR USB ports. My two Back Ports are completely taken up with a Lan Adapter and an external HDD.

I'm right there with you! I've been hoarding unopened GC controllers like GOLD in the fear of them becoming rarer, and more and more broken. Now I can totally replenish my stock, and get back-up controllers for my back-up controllers to my back-up controllers! Enough GC controllers to last 10 years!

...now if only Nintendo would rerelease N64 controllers...

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorJune 11, 2014

Don't tell anyone, but I have an unopened WaveBird... :D

nickmitchJune 11, 2014

That is probably worth like literally a bajillion dollars.

Glad to see it will support Wavebirds, as there was some doubt to that. 3 of my 4 remaining GameCube controllers are Wavebirds.
