The NWR E3 2014 Awards

Splatoon

by Neal Ronaghan - June 16, 2014, 9:51 am EDT

Nintendo's new multiplayer shooter was one of the coolest things at E3 2014.

Splatoon was a complete surprise. From a team made up of developers who worked on everything from Animal Crossing to New Super Mario Bros., Splatoon wasn't something anyone predicted. It's a brand new game with a brand new cast of colorful squid humans (or human squid?). The demo that was on display featured four-vs.-four multiplayer focused on painting more of the floor than the other team. The premise is relatively simple, but once you play a few matches, it all clicks. Zooming around as a squid in the water-like ink is incredible fun, and it gets even better when you pop out, snuff out an enemy, and then recede back to hiding seeking out your next prey.

Nintendo's take on multiplayer third-person shooters displayed very well at E3 2014, and that's why it was one of our favorite games of E3 2014. Splatoon might not be making its way out until 2015, but it's something everyone should keep an eye on.

So I'm a big Nintendo fan and I haven't even taken the time yet to check into Sony and Microsofts stuff. Is Smash the GAME OF THE SHOW (as in Game of the Show including everything Sony and Microsoft did) or was it Game of the Nintendo Show?

It also features combat mutilation. I noticed one of those dog rabbit creatures lost an ear during a fight.
