PGC EXCLUSIVE! Capcom/Nintendo Project!

Amusement Vision’s working on F-Zero and Namco has Star Fox. Want to know what Capcom is working with Nintendo on?!? PGC has the exclusive scoop!

Discuss it in Talkback!

Since the incredible announcement of the Triforce Arcade hardware, the potential for the board has practically exploded with news that Sega’s Amusement Vision team would be working with Nintendo to produce F-Zero games for the arcade and GameCube. This huge news was then rivaled by the recent announcement that Namco & Nintendo would be making a Star Fox shooter title. There has been some indication that Capcom was also working with Nintendo on a project, featuring a big Nintendo franchise. The only question was: what game would it be?

Many suspected that the game would inevitably be another Triforce project. While it’s certain that arcade giant Capcom will provide arcade games for Triforce, it seems that the project it is co-developing with Nintendo will be for the Game Boy Advance. According to various reliable sources, Capcom will be re-making the SNES classic, A Link to the Past, for GBA.

Presumably, Yoshiki Okamoto and his company Flagship will handle development of the game. Flagship has already crafted two handheld Zeldas, Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, for GBC with Okamoto producing under the supervision of Shigeru Miyamoto. Hints of this SNES remake emerged last February, during a lengthy interview with Okamoto, Oracles’ producer, Yoshifumi Yamashita and Miyamoto.

This delightful chat revealed Okamoto had originally envisioned his Zelda project as a re-mix. Okamoto communicated what it was like to work with Zelda’s creator and expressed that he would like to work with Miyamoto again. In fact, after Okamoto explained problems with creating Zelda on the Game Boy, Miyamoto even teased: “Well... you wanna switch to GBA? We could start right now.”

Our sources also reveal that Nintendo’s joint projects with Amusement Vision, Namco have been in development longer and will be seen on video at E3. Presumably, Capcom’s remix of A Link to the Past will be on display in some form at E3 as well, and could even be officially announced prior to the show. We’ll keep you posted on further developments. In the meantime, remember you saw it first at PGC!
