RIP North American Wii U touchscreens

The big mover (ok, besides the Pokémon preload) in the North American eShops this week is Mario Party: Star Rush. Daan reviewed the European version, and it sounds like there's actually some fresh ideas to go along with the selling of the new Mario line of amiibo in North America. If you're wondering about how it plays - and know someone locally who dove in - there's also a special "Party Guest" app that lets you experience all of the game's multiplayer.

On the smaller download front, there's another NWR-connected game out this week in the form of Twisted Fusion. Its developer, Lewis Pugh, has made a couple of appearances on Radio Free Nintendo, and I actually tried to back the game on Kickstarter but couldn't get my card to go through. The Virtual Console adds a couple of games on Wii U as EAD Tokyo's only non-Mario game releases as New Play Control Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, and White Mage dunks all over everything in Mario Hoops: 3-on-3.

Since Europe showed up to the party last month, it gets the Sega 3D Classics Collection - some of the best Sega games ever, and Altered Beast, all in one download. Its Virtual Console gets some boost power with F-Zero X, and previously-Japan exclusive Mario's Super Picross releases on New 3DS because that platform doesn't have enough Picross games on it.

Europe gets F-Zero X on virtual console! :O

How terrible are the waggle controls for new play control Jungle Beat? Jungle Beat is so fucking good that I have kept a terrible peripheral around for 11.5 years for this one game but it wound be cool if I didn't have to do that.

Oh man, i want it but reading people's impressions about quality of N64 emulation on Wii U VC (display lag?), i think i'd rather buy it on Wii as i originally planned even if it will turn out more expensive.

Apparently there's a huge dead zone with the analog stick on the F-Zero X Virtual Console version that makes its near unplayable.

Not too terrible. I mean, you do shake a lot, but I enjoyed the game overall. It certainly didn't make my hands hurt or raw like the GameCube original!

I still have yet to notice lag in N64 games on the Wii U.  I downloaded Mario 64 on the Wii U last year and that's the game people say is the worst offender and yet I got all 120 stars just fine.  Now I haven't played the game on an N64 in over a decade  so maybe it's noticeable if I'm playing both games side by side, but from what I played, nothing seemed wrong with the controls.

I wonder if it might have something to do with certain TV's.  I play on a 32 inch Samsung that when I bought it at Best Buy was told was good for gaming because something about it has less lag for gaming.  I remember how back on the Wii certain TV's were said to use NES games to have some input lag so it seem like the lag in Virtual Console games depend more on the TV then actual emulation.
