One of the best versions of a classic game releases as a download in time for Hallowe'en.

Resident Evil 4's Wii edition will come to Europe next week as a downloadable title.

Originally announced on the Nintendo of Europe Twitter feed this morning, the 2007 Wii re-release of the 2005 PlayStation 2/Gamecube title will launch for €19.99/£17.99 with a 20% discount for launch week.

The Wii release will support off-tv play by way of Classic Controller support, and is the first 3rd party Wii game to be available as a download outside of Japan.

It's tempting although not for me at the moment, hopefully it's one step closer to Trauma Team, not that I have very high hopes.

Fantastic game.

I've heard some say that the PS3 HD version is definitive, not sure if that's true, but the motion/pointer controls in Wii edition were fantastic and at the time of release it was clearly the best version.

My only question is whether this provides good value. Can't you find copies of the actual Wii game for a lower price?

Yup. $12 new, sub $10 used.

So it's a re-re-release of Wii RE 4 on Wii U?

This is coming out in Europe, is this true there as well?

£12 on Amazon but I've seen it low as £5 second hand at stores. Although digital goods are always more expensive than physical so it's a decent deal I suppose if you really want to play with Wii/Wii U controls.

Someone was recently trying to convince me that digital goods should be more expensive.
I have yet to understand that logic.  Part of the reason I'm not at all a fan of moving to an all-digital gaming world where there is only one storefront and no meaningful competition.  (Yes, competition when picking a platform - but once on a platform you are locked in.)

You've got to wonder about the timing of this....for people in NA, this would be pretty apt timing with Halloween, but in Europe, Halloween isn't really celebrated, is it?

The value proposition is also something which Nintendo must be aware of.  This is a cheap and easy to find game....are they really going to sell a lot of copies?  I think even the power of the brand and awareness of RE4 must be on the wane for more "casual" fans, and for hardcore fans, we already either own it, have played it, or know how easily and cheaply we can get it.

Maybe this is selfish, but what they should do is release some of the more hard to find, rare Wii games.  How perfect would it be if they released Radiant Dawn on VC when Fire Emblem If comes out?  That game is INCREDIBLY rare and expensive, even more so than Metroid Prime Trilogy or Xenoblade.  And they don't have to worry about kicking back money to a third party, since it's theirs.

Or why don't they take a tack from Sony, and do something like re-release Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, and call it "Fire Emblem:  Radiant Chronicles"?  There Nintendo, I gave you that for FREE.    No need to pay marketing for that idea.

I played this on the GCN and never finished it. I also played it on the Wii and never finished it because I did not like the controls (I think I never noticed that is has CC support). Thirds time's the charm. Definitely looking forward to this.
