Shy Guy de Amigo!

A new trailer for Intelligent Systems' upcoming Paper Mario: Sticker Star was released alongside yesterday's Nintendo Direct.

The latest installment in the series looks to bring a wealth of surprises. The trailer opens with Mario exploring a variety of new locales, pulling and placing stickers throughout the environment. These stickers are applied to your battle command page, and are used in battle against enemies like the trailer's trio of Shy Guys. The troupe is adorned in mariachi garb, and brandish the appropriate musical instruments.

Special attacks seem to take the form of real world items, with the trailer's Lucky Cat statue joining the fan we saw in earlier previews. After obtaining the statue, Mario is seem throwing it against a wall, where it flattens and becomes a sticker. The sticker is used in battle against some sort of holographic-sticker-Goomba, where it repeatedly stomps the enemy.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star will be available for purchase in North America on November 11, 2012. It is slated for release within the year in Japan and Europe.

I'm going to enjoy it, but the lack of partners makes me sad.

Paper Mario looks better every time it is shown. I really like the look of this world and they've gone all out with the aesthetic more than ever, what with the bigger enemies even looking like they're made out of cardboard strips.

I hope it doesn't get lost in the November kerfuffle - it's unusual for a second-tier series such as this to get the prime holiday spot.

I wonder how long the game is. I'm really in the mood for a long, meaty 3DS game. It would be really cool if Sticker Star was as substantial as it's console counter parts.

This game looks interesting. I might pick it up, even though I haven't played a Paper Mario since the N64.

When I read "Mariachi" my first thought was of Shy Guys dressed in black with a guiter case full of guns. :)  Nintendo would never be THAT cool.
