Capcom announces Monster Hunter 4 for 3DS.

At the end of Tuesday's Nintendo 3DS press conference, Capcom and Nintendo showed early footage from Monster Hunter 4, the next completely new entry in the series, for Nintendo 3DS.

The footage consisted of the player's character being chased and attacked by a dragon-like monster through narrow corridors, across bridges, and up cliffs. The main character dodged attacks as he scrambled over obstacles. The footage looked very early, with a noticeably stiff running animation. It is not clear yet if this is a Nintendo 3DS exclusive.

so aside from 3, we're also getting 4. looks like the 3DS is saved in Japan.

Exceptional job on getting the site updated so quickly. I literally just watched this and you already have everything covered in English. This is why I come to NintendoWorldReport.

Rocking news.

Yeah, you guys are on the ball!

The faster movement really caught my eye. And the climbing in the trailer looked pretty cool. Finally, climbing on the back of the monster is a nod to Shadow of the Colossus and Capcom's own Dragon's Dogma.

Monster Hunter Tri G will add a lock-on camera feature for new players and I hope that makes its way to Monster Hunter 4.

I know everyone thought it was over the top for Nintendo to release the slide-pad attachment for a port of MH3... thoughts on doing it for the brand-new sequel?

EnnerSeptember 13, 2011

I think it is just as ridiculous for a new sequel as it is for an expanded port of an old game.

Yes, please. Now when my friends say it's stupid to have a 3DS I have this to point to.

Wonder if you can share items/data between the Tri expansion & this...

AdrockSeptember 13, 2011

Wait, there's a lock-on camera in MH3G? It doesn't offer the same freedom as right analog stick for camera movement but a lock-on camera is a pretty simple solution to the issue. If Capcom puts any kind of effort into it, the game should be more than playable without the attachment.

From what I've read its not a lock-on to the monster as much as a button to tap and have your camera orient to the monster.  Like the button to tap to get it back behind you.  Either way that would be very handy when running.

You can bet that Nintendo will allow Monster Hunter themed 3DS to be sold in a similar manner to the PSP Monster Hunter games. Also, a game like Monster Hunter makes me feel as though the 3DS Lite would benefit from a bigger and better screen to accomodate games of this caliber. Overall, this game is one that will compell me to buy a 3DS.

I'm sure there will be one of those special edition 3DS with the Tattoo or whatever you call them and probably in black or that brown.  Though I can tell you right now it won't be as extensive a retooling as the MH PSP was.

Kotaku said there was a Sony press conference scheduled for today.

This MH4 will still be 3DS exclusive in 24 hours? =\
Or is Kotaku just, yet again, making its best efforts to rain on a Nintendo-related parade?

BeautifulShySeptember 13, 2011

There is a sony conference today but I don't know what time.
