In honor of the series' 20th anniversary, Square Enix will re-release the classic game on Virtual Console.

Square Enix has announced that in honor of the SaGa series' 20th anniversary they will release Romancing SaGa, a Super Nintendo title, on Virtual Console next month in Japan. As with most other SNES games on the Virtual Console service, it will be priced at 800 Wii Points.

This original SNES version of the game has only been released in Japan, although a remake was released for the PlayStation 2 in October 2005. Romancing SaGa is the fourth title in the SaGa series overall, with the first three titles seeing North American release as Final Fantasy Legend I, II, and III for the GameBoy.

I played a fan translation of the third Romancing SaGa, it was fairly surprising how much depth there was for a jRPG, it had permadeath, real choices, a war mode and several interweaving character stories.

This series has beautiful music. I may download this game just to hear it in context.
