The CEO of Level 5 confirmed that the company is localizing Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box.

Yesterday at GDC, Akihiro Hino, the president and CEO of Level 5, spoke at the session entitled "Level-5’s Techniques to Producing a Hit Game." At the beginning of his speech, Hino showed a list of all the games that Level 5 released; the second game having an official English translation of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box.

During the Q&A session that followed, Hino said that he wants all six Professor Layton games to be released in North America and Europe. He also revealed that Level 5 is currently working on a localization of the second Professor Layton title that will hopefully be released sometime in six months.

Took em long enough. They're up to... SIX? in Japan?

No, Level 5 is developing the 4th Professor Layton game which is the start of the second trilogy. Hino wants all 6 to be available in North America and Europe.

3. The 4th one ("Professor Layton and the Devil's Flute") releases in Japan this fall. So either it was a bad translation or Level 5 is already planning to release 2 more Layton games.

Best news to come out of GDC, hands down.

Ah, that makes things a little more reasonable. Still, I have a coworker who points at Nintendo not localizing Prof. layton games as a sign of hardcore abandonement, so I'm happy to hear this news.

Is Professor Layton really considered a hardcore game? I always viewed it as more of a hybrid.

Yes!!! More Layton = More Awesome!

SundoulosMarch 26, 2009

Awesome!  I had lost hope that they would release any more here; the news that we might get both trilogies is awesome!

And your point is? Level 5 confirmed that a localization is being done whether it is done by Nintendo or by Level 5. Level 5 is too small to publish games in North America so I think Nintendo will co-publish the game with Level 5 like the first Professor Layton in North America.

TJ SpykeMarch 26, 2009

Flames is right. Nintendo is publishing the game in North America (they don't "co-publish" it though), but it's not their IP. Level 5 owns the IP (and publishes the games themselves in Japan). I think the people blaming Nintendo probably don't realize this.

Nintendo better slow down... pretty soon they are gonna run out of things fans have been begging, bitching, crying and complaining  about for years.

Actually, they still have a few left over...

A new Kid Icarus game, a ground breaking Zelda title EVERYONE loves, Mother 3 in the US, Earthbound finally released on the VC (legal issues be damned), Waluigi gone for good, better third party support...

Fans will be bitching till the end of time...
