Capcom Offering Replacement Okami Box Art

In light of the recent discovery that the game's box art has the IGN watermark on it, Capcom is offering replacement art for those who have already purchased the game.

As of last week, it was discovered that the recent release of Capcom’s PS2 port Okami had the IGN watermark on the cover of the box. It is not clear as to how the cover art error came about, but Capcom is seeking to amend the situation with replacement box art regardless.

Rather than just offer a new piece of art sans the IGN watermark, Capcom is giving customers a choice. Aside from the replacement box art, two alternate pieces of art are being made available. If you have purchased the game, fill out the small form on the Capcom website and make your choice. Within the next few weeks a new piece of box art will be delivered to your door.

Glad to see Capcom is making amends. I'm all ordered up, hopefully it won't be long before the art arrives.

The link is going real slow, must being getting hit hard but here it is.

Which box art should I get!?

I see that you can get the same boxart again, does it still have the IGN logo?

I just ordered all 3 by using my friend's addresses, hehe.

EnnerApril 24, 2008

I'm partial to the cherry blossom one (left one), but the logo looks a bit to big maybe? The forest one (center) has nice grand feeling to it. Either one is better than the bland regular blue one to the right.

I say get the forest one. I feel it "gels" the most with what the game is.

I chose the green one.  This is a great move by Capcom, and I really appreciate this kind of respect, for once.

LuigiHannApril 24, 2008

http://blog.capcom.com/archives/1154 They have some bigger images of the art on their blog.

I chose the sakura blossom landscape, because as pretty as the forest backdrop also is, I really can't stand Waka and don't want him on my cover... =)

Waka waka waka

The green one would also have Amaterasu wrapped around the case in an ugly way, I think.

MaverickApril 24, 2008

I would have gotten the far left option if it would have still said "Okami" on the spine.  I might re-order with another address just to have the art though, but in that case I would rather not have the logo on it.

Regular box art for me this time.

I ordered both the pink and the green one.  I hope to pick up the game this weekend.  :)

Save those misprints they'll be worth something on ebay someday.

Thats what I said.  Really a good idea.

I'm confused, though.  My cover has a "9.5 out of 10 -Play" on it.  Nothing from IGN.  Is Play owned by IGN?

UltimatePartyBearApril 24, 2008

I don't see what's so confusing unless you missed this news in the first place.  Does that help?

animecyberratApril 24, 2008

I wonder how much this is going to set Capcom back.

Ian SaneApril 24, 2008

Offering replacement box art in general is pretty cool but THREE options?  That's going beyond the call of duty.

Funny goof up in the first place.

I did.  Thanks.

Anyone think they did this on purpose? It certainly has raised awareness about the game.

I love the cherry blosson cover, but why don't either of the new selections have an identifying title down the spine? :(

Personally, I don't mind that omission one bit. In fact, I have half a mind to just leave the original box art on the case, and hang up the new art as a tiny poster. :3 They're really beautiful pieces, all three (I went for the green one, though).

CericApril 24, 2008

Man I've botched big recently at work and I'm glad I have good company.

Dirk TemporoApril 25, 2008

How on earth did Capcom accidentally release box art with the IGN logo on it? =/

I mean honestly.

IceColdApril 25, 2008

How did Capcom explain this in their press statement? Did they actually admit to it?

IceColdApril 25, 2008

So this is how they spun it..

They did admit it, on the blog.

I can honestly say that my worst day at Capcom was this Monday. After releasing Okami for the Wii last week to some great reviews (Metacritic Average: 88), one of our Okami diehard fans discovered that the folks who work here at Capcom are, in fact, human and can make mistakes.

I’m speaking of the watermark that appeared on the cover of Okami. It’s sadly one of those things that’s hard to spot if you don’t know what your looking for, but the moment you see it, it becomes obvious and stares you in the face.

Still no real sign of why or how.

Fine with me, I love this idea.

GoldenPhoenixApril 25, 2008

They didn't really spin anything. Colin said they screwed up and people make mistakes like the watermark in the Okami box art.

Bill AurionApril 25, 2008

The fact that Capcom reacted so quickly to the matter is a tad suspicious, though... =)
