Ratings boards hint at big titles in the pipeline.

The Office of Film and Literature Classification is the Australian version of the ESRB. Like the ESRB, rated games often appear on their site before they are officially announced.

Currently unreleased games already rated on their site include a number of hits. For the NES, Adventures of Lolo, Donkey Kong Jr. Math, Mach Rider, Mario & Yoshi (just Yoshi in the US), Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack, NES Open Tournament Golf, Pac-Man, Punch-Out!!, Shadow Warriors, and Super Mario Bros. 2 are listed. Actraiser, Final Fight, and The Legend of the Mystical Ninja are listed for the SNES. The Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) will be receiving Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Alien Storm, and Wonderboy in Monster World. All games are rated G except for Shadow Warriors, Alien Storm, and all three Super Nintendo games, which are rated PG.

In addition, the ESRB has rated Mighty Bomb Jack and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for the NES. They have also rated Final Fight and Street Fighter II Turbo for the SNES and Star Fox 64 for the Nintendo 64. Each of these games are rated E except for the Street Fighter update, which is rated T. Nintendo World Report will give recommendations for each of these games as they become available in the US.

ADVENTURES OF LOLO! heart.gif

Star Fox 64 is one of my most-wanted N64 games on VC. Bring it on!

decoymanMarch 29, 2007

I trust I'm not the only one who's filled with glee to see Mighty Bomb Jack?

Ooh, and StarFox 64, that'll probably be my first N64 game I buy. I was N64-less for high school...face-icon-small-blush.gif (I look back on it and think how strange it was that I could be totally into video games in elementary school and jr. high, then be totally disinterested in high school, only to have the interest re-kindled in college. High school is an anomoly in my history of video game playing.)

Slightly off topic, but has anyone noticed that the minute the flood of Wii releases happened they started slowing down the VC releases?

On the weeks that we got more than 7 releases on the Wii we got like one classic game, or 3 lesser known ones. This proves SB and Cap's theory that they use the VC as a way to release something during game droughts.

Seriously, look back...

Before the game flood we got:
- Donkey Kong Country
- Streets of rage
- Kirby's adventure
- Ocarina of time
- Splatterhouse
- Adventure Island
- Excite bike

And many other fan praised titles.

After the flood we got:
- Some obscure Genesis games
- Romance of the three kingdoms

Notice the difference?

I think you're correct:

GI: There has been criticism that there’s not enough first-party software coming quick enough, that there’s quite a gap between big releases on the Wii. What’s your response to that?

LF: I would remind people that the console has only been on the shelves since December. We already have a lot of software and we have a strong line-up of titles and we have a lot of games on the Virtual Console. At the moment I think we have a strong enough line-up with titles like Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid. I would say that these titles - and this has always been the Nintendo policy - will be on the shelves when the director says so. If the development team says they need one more month or two more months to deliver a unique Wii experience, we’re comfortable with that.

Didn't Reggie come right out and tell us that would happen months ago?

Which interview? I remember talking about how they would step up game releases, but nothing about VC releases.

I would add hearts to this post, but I think one will do. When does this come to the U.S.?
I would definately buy this game.

It's this interview. MTV's news site is borked for me in two versions of Firefox and IE7, so here's the relevant quote (obtained directly from the page source):
Quote

Readers have noted that some games slated for the Wii Virtual Console in Japan and not for the U.S. by year's end include surefire American favorites like "Super Mario World." On Tuesday, Fils-Aime addressed that point: "I do think here in the Americas we want to be a bit more strategic in how we use the titles ... If there's a month where we don't have a fantastic lineup of Nintendo-packaged software, that's where I want to release a great SNES game or a great N64 game to maintain the momentum."

nitsu niflheimMarch 29, 2007

Alex Kidd isn't for me, I tried it the other day and didn't like it. Wonderboy in Monster World looks like something I will look out for.

LOLO IS GOD.

LOLO!, I need it next Monday or else... I will sadly wait for it and Super Paper Mario. My other most wanted game on the VC was Mario RPG but I just bought it on ebay. But the first Paper mario on the 64 would be sweet.

JonLeungMarch 29, 2007

If we already bought Street Fighter II, can we get a discount on Street Fighter II: Turbo? And then again if/when Super Street Fighter II comes out? It doesn't seem like it would be hard to do...

Infernal MonkeyMarch 29, 2007

I've never played Adventures of Lolo. =o

Oh yeah, Shadow Warriors = Ninja Gaiden.

darknight06March 29, 2007

Now, I'll buy a Street Fighter II. I remember saying when WW was released that I was personally gonna wait for Turbo before I got it. Unless they put up Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, this will be all the SF2 I'll ever need from the VC.

IceColdMarch 29, 2007

How come I know so little about Adventures of Lolo? What exactly is it?

Wow, I'm surprised Street Fighter 2 Turbo is up so soon after the other one. I wouldn't be too happy if I had bought that when it came out.

Also, they're saving SMB3.. it's the only Mario platformer (well, and Yoshi's Island) that won't have been released soon.

KDR_11kMarch 29, 2007

Lolo is a puzzle game where you're some round thing that has to collect keys and move blocks while evading enemies.

Also I don't see any slowdown in VC releases. We just got LttP, Goemon (Kid Yin in this version...) and Punch Out.

IceColdMarch 29, 2007

So is it sort of like Chip's Challenge?

BlackNMild2k1March 29, 2007

My memory of Lolo is fuzzy, but it is very fond. And according to the link below, we'll be getting a deal to buy it for $5 on the VC

Adventures of Lolo

and as far the SFII and SFII Turbo VC releases..... I think I'll wait for the SSFIITCE.

... the comparison doesn't do Lolo justice. Chip's challenge didn't have alma, it didn't have medusas, it didn't have that moment of terror right before you get the last heart and set loose with your own hands the enemies who would hunt you to your pixelated DEATH.

How the hell are they going to map Lylat Wars' controls?

Michael8983March 29, 2007

Star Fox 64 was my MOST WANTED so I'm happy....and I'm hoping it's among the first on that list to be released.

I'm not surprised to see Street Fighter 2 Turbo on there either. I KNEW THIS WAS COMING which is why I didn't download the first one.
Now I'll have to decide whether to download Turbo or wait for Hyper Street Fighter Championship Edition or whatever came after. I forget.

CaterkillerMatthew Osborne, Contributing WriterMarch 30, 2007

Finaly word on Star Fox 64! I assume it will be out here in the stats this April as well correct? Oh I wish I wish, it were coming this monday here!

It seems like they would just map the C buttons to the C - Stick. But then you would be pushing up one stick and either left or down on another. That seems very awkward, but who knows, I think it will turn out just fine.

Star Fox 64 is up on the server (not public), so there's a good chance it'll be available on Monday!

TrueNerdApril 02, 2007

I'll be buying Metroid (again) because I want Nintendo to remember that they can make money off of the 2D games in that franchise. And because it's awesomely awesome. You should do likewise.

I'm not buying Metroid until I give up trying to get to level 3 on Kid Icarus.

that Baby guyApril 02, 2007

I'm so going to download several games over the summer. College sucks, not enough game time. Kid Icarus is probably first on my list, I never got to play it before, and I'm enjoying hearing how hard it is.

KDR_11kApril 02, 2007

I'm not buying Metroid because Metroid for the NES sucks.
