McDonald's® and Nintendo® Invite Kids to Get Active and 'Take the Mario™ Challenge'

McDonald's Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals to Feature Popular Nintendo Characters - September 1 through September 21, 2006

OAK BROOK, Ill., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- With the help of McDonald's Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals, Mario is jumping out of the video game world and into the hands of children nationwide. Beginning September 1 - September 21, 2006, while supplies last, participating McDonald's restaurants will feature six active toys from the exciting world of Mario, encouraging youngsters to get up, get active and "Take the Mario Challenge."

From the arcade to the outdoors, the McDonald's Happy Meal® and Mighty Kids Meal® Mario line-up is taking Mario and friends to a new level of fun. This interactive collection features six active toys for outdoor fun, showcasing the most popular Nintendo characters -- Mario, Yoshi® and Donkey Kong®. For a new twist on tennis, the Mario Swing and Hit features an inflatable tennis mallet with a plastic tennis ball. A game of tag becomes even more fun by tagging opponents with the Yoshi Tag and Run Meter -- you're it! Pull the cord on the Donkey Kong Banana Chaser to watch his green and yellow discs take flight, and stomp on the pedal of the Yoshi Pop and Catch to watch Yoshi shoot the ball up in the air. A simple game of catch takes on a fun, new look with the Mario Throw and Catch ball and the Donkey Kong Throw and Go Spinner disc. Whether playing catch with Mario, running with Yoshi, or jumping with Donkey Kong, kids are sure to enjoy outdoor fun with these beloved characters.

For added adventure, young guests can "Take the Mario Challenge" with a series of fun, active challenges included with each toy. To maximize the fun, guests can visit http://www.happymeal.com/ for additional Mario challenges and the chance to win exciting prizes. One hundred guests will have the chance to win a Nintendo DS Lite -- the play system for busy kids on the go -- and two high-action Mario games. Complete details and official contest rules are available inside participating McDonald's restaurants or at http://www.happymeal.com.

All the weight I gain from hunting these toys down I expect to lose while playing the Wii.

It feels really weird to buy Happy Meals. Especially when it's just for the toy.

I'm a loser face-icon-small-frown.gif

I want a Yoshi toy, but I can't stand fast food... ;_;

Steal someone's baby and ask if he can have a toy. Usually they'll give you one if the baby is crying loud enough.

My fiancee works at McDonalds still (gotta pay for college somehow) and at the end of the promotion they are giving her all of the display stuff, including the case with all the toys! :-D

KDR_11kAugust 31, 2006

A local McD's allowed you to purchase the toys separately from the menus for the equivalent of 1€ years ago, might want to try asking if that's possible.

EasyCureSeptember 01, 2006

kdr is right. i know in the few mcdonalds by me you can buy the toy seperately, im just not sure of the price. i remember the first time i witnessed it: a kid wouldnt stop crying cuz he wanted the toy but he had already eaten, so his mom didnt wanna buy a meal just for the toy and asked the cashier if the toy could be sold seperately. she didnt hesitate and sold it to the women quickly.

so if anything, just show up with a crying baby and make them cry about the toy. that is if you feel like a loser buying a happy meal or even just the toy and would rather look like a caring older brother.

i haven't had a big mac in a while tho....

Then take the toy and leave the crying baby on the counter.

Burger King ought to give you a dirty look for asking for anything to do with HAPPY MEAL!

The last time I had a Happy Meal I was still in high school. I won it in the Monopoly game they have pretty much every year. The toys at the time were Teletubbies and I got Tinky-Winky the, you know, purple one.

I hope you burned it! face-icon-small-frown.gif

"I hope you burned it!"

Actually I have it hanging up in my bedroom above my CD player just to be contrary.

I got an inflatable Mario Tennis Hammer with a little tennis ball. Yay!

Don't forget to check out the HappyMeal.com website. There's a few minor Mario-related things on there that will kill a few mins.

Also, who remembers these?

Geeze... this thing is hard. I managed to get 11 once.. whew.

Whooo!!! I got 23! Damn, I'm good.

Someone help me out here. During the first week of the promotion, I managed to grab toys #1, 2 and 3. Today was the start of the second week and I swung by there for lunch and got two #3's... Should they have gotten #4, 5 and 6 yet or what?

NuclearSpeedSeptember 08, 2006

i am unaware of how many toys there are (too lazy to go look)

if there are 8 they would do 2 a week for the month, however if they happen to run out before the end of the week they will go on to the next one, and then keep that until it runs out or the third week comes.

if there are 12 then yes 4,5,6 should be the ones being handed out.

of course as long as you don't open any extras that you get most mcdonald's will switch them out for another one in the same run for you, just say you already have it and would like something else.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorSeptember 08, 2006

There are six... which is what I can't understand how many per week they're doing...
