How to Make PGC Share Work For You

by the NWR Staff - May 14, 2001, 11:41 am EDT

Ready to put the power of our file sharing network to use? Here's what you have to do...

  • Download the latest version of LimeWire for your platform at http://www.limewire.com

  • Install LimeWire

    • Be aware that the directory you set up as your share directory will make any files in it available to everyone else on PGC Share… might be good to check to be sure you move the kiddie pr0n somewhere else

    • Please be sure to mark the proper connection speed you have as it will help improve the rate at which your computer tries to transfer files and will help prevent problems

  • Open LimeWire for the first time

  • Go to the Tools selection in your Menu Bar

  • Select Options…

  • Go to the Advanced Properties tab

Options/Advanced settings

  • ONLY if you are behind a firewall do the following:

    • Check the Force IP Box

    • Place your computer’s IP address in the Force to Address box

    • If you aren’t sure of your computer’s IP address go to: this site

    • If you do not force your IP address and you’re behind a firewall you will greatly increase the likelihood of file transfer complications and errors

  • In the box marked Connect OK String put in: PGCSHARE OK

  • Click OK

  • Click on the Connections tab

Connections Page filled in

  • In the box on the bottom left for AutoConnect Hosts put in: www.planetgamecube.com:6346

  • Click on Add

  • For best results close LimeWire and re-open

Once you start up again you should be all set up and hopefully you’ll see that you’re connected! One note is that depending on your connection and the number of people on the network or the amount of net traffic around… it can take a minute or two sometimes to be connected so be patient at first and don’t be discouraged!
