The deepest lore behind any Pokémon team.

Rillaboom

Ever since the starters were announced, I knew I was part of the Grookey Gang. Rillaboom was a consistently well-rounded member of my team. He became the team leader, with his moveset focusing on a broader range of coverage. His signature move, Drum Beating, has the added effect of lowering speed, which made him useful against some of Galar’s faster Pokémon. In his heart, though, Rillaboom wanted to be an Incineroar, so I taught him Darkest Lariat, which, as hilarious as it sounds (and looks), made Rillaboom a great counter for Psychic and Ghost types .

Boltund

Starting out as a Yamper, the best doggo around, Boltund quickly became a reliable source of speed on the team. Although she lacked power at first glance, the Nuzzle and Wild Charge combo gave her the power to out speed anything that stood in his way. Of course, having Strong Jaw meant that he had an extra boost to Crunch, making her no joke. Boltund was the happy go lucky team member, with her best friend being Drednaw.

Drednaw

Arguably the MVP of the team, Drednaw was by far the most powerful member. Starting out as a Chewtle, Drednaw became the go-to Pokémon whenever things got rough. She was Boltund’s best friend (and caretaker) for most of the game, so whenever Boltund got into a pinch, Drednaw came and saved the day. She won almost every gym badge on her own, against all odds, and ended the game being the highest level. No amount of Gigantamax Drenaw could ever replace her.

Centiskorch

Moving away from the central three, Centiskorch became second in command to Rillaboom. Having originally caught him as a Sizzlipede for the Pokédex, he soon proved his worth against Milo, keeping his spot on the team. The combination of Coil, Leech Life, and Fire Lash gave him a ridiculous amount of potential against any foe. He had a bit of a rivalry with Drednaw on who the team’s powerhouse was though. Still, he found every opportunity to fight, even if that meant being Drednaw’s partner in double battles.

Grimmsnarl

Originally being caught as a Morgrem, Grimmsnarl was a powerful member who aided in the type coverage department. Dark/Fairy is one of the coolest types, so even though I wasn’t a fan of Impidimp and Morgrem, I fell in love with Grimmsnarl. He used Foul Play and Play Rough predominantly, but still used Hammer Arm for fighting coverage. In terms of sheer attack stat, Grimmsnarl has everyone else on the team beat, but his low speed made his uses limited. Although he has a scary exterior, Grimmsnarl was a team player, and was happy to take a few hits to help out his buddies.

Dragapult

Dragapult was effectively the silent killer of the team. After originally seeing Dreepy from a random trainer, I knew I had to have one, and after four hours of searching, Dreepy was added to the team. She utilizes her leftovers well with Phantom Force, while consistently striking first against every opponent. Dragon Dance combined with Dragon Darts also swept most battles, even if it did mean shooting a few baby Dreepys at a Duraludon. Although she was added very late to the team, she stood her ground well. Knowing the value of family, Dragapult (and her babies) was always there to step in and protect the members of the team.
