NWR's Elite Five

Elite Five Joe

Cute, but deadly.

Cinderace - “Hermes”

My starter, obviously. For the first time in my life I almost actually replaced my starter for a Carkol (named “Pyro Jack”) but in the end the siren song of Pyro Ball won me over and he became one of my front liners for the rest of the game. I had originally been Team Sobble, but I disliked Intelleon’s design so much that it pushed me into the rabbit crew. It’s okay though, because Hermes is my bro and easily the team lead in this weird canon I’ve created.

Boltund - “Cerberus”

Yamper was pretty much the top of my list of new Pokémon to try out once I saw him. I’ve seen plenty of people complain about Boltund’s low defense but honestly I never had that issue. Nuzzle became a move that never left Cerberus’s moveset, its guaranteed paralysis always a welcome sight, and a quick Charge plus Wild Charge combo got rid of just about any flying or water type that dared cross my path. Cerberus the Boltund is a good boy, that is all you need to know.

Eldegoss - “Mandrake”

Originally caught because Gossifleur is just too darn cute, but Eldegoss became a massively important part of my team build up for one reason and one reason only: Cotton Down. Mandrake’s ability would cause any enemy that hit her to lose speed. At one point my opponent had paralyzed her but she had lowered their speed so harshly that she was still faster. That’s the kind of quality you can expect from my cottony girl here.

Corviknight - “Yatagarasu”

Yet another one of those Pokemon that was on my list of ones I absolutely wanted to get a hold of once I was finally in Galar. This hulking boy was seemingly only really brought out for emergencies in the end, though, his Brave Bird being used any time a grass or bug type was finding themselves to somehow be too much of a nuisance otherwise, and Steel Wing being used to deal with pesky fairies. Even if he was barely used he stuck around for the whole journey, from Rookidee to Corviknight.

Rapidash - “Kelpie”

Despite having Sword, I basically wanted a Galarian Ponyta from the moment I saw them, they’re just too cute to not. So a friend with Shield traded me one, and off we went! It was a shakeup between whether I used this or Hatterene, but unfortunately I gave up on them when Hatenna was just too weak and evolved too late to really have a place on my team. So the cute pony earned her spot, and quickly became my most used Pokémon. Her ability Run Away became incredibly useful in the Wild Area, and even outside of that she was used so often in battles that she is currently 10 whole levels above the rest of the team. She is by far the MVP of my team and I’m proud to have her.

Grapploct - “Hecatoncheir”

The final addition to my team, replacing a Quagsire fittingly named “My Son” (because he is my son). I won’t lie, I basically grabbed him because I needed a good counter to rock type for Gordie’s gym, but I also just kind of love his design? A wrestling octopus, and he’s not even water type either! I’ve been able to fool so many people because I mean look at him, of course he’s water type right? Nope! Octolock and Superpower have found themselves to be a useful combo, with Reversal on hold for when Superpower has inevitably brought him down into the red. He also knows Dive when he has to deal with them darn fire types, but honestly it comes up less than you’d think.
