E3 Bingo Cards: Revisited

Carmine's Correct Answers

It's many months until Wii U launch, but I'm having fun all the same.

My original predictions

I'm excited. I've done E3 predictions in the past, and I've bombed horribly. This year I was somewhat able to keep my hype under check and it's starting to pay off. Score!

3. Actually, one of my biggest bingo card wishes DID come true this year: Universal Remote Functionality. It's going to make a really neat little feature that helps the Wii U smoothly integrate into living rooms the world over, and anything that helps sell more Pikmin is good in my book!

6. On the other hand, I personally felt that a 3DS Revision No Show was in order. Iwata is worried about training consumers to "wait," for sales, or hardware revisions, or whatever. He doesn't need to worry about me, I'm happy with my 3DS.

9. I nailed my No Wii U Price Announcement prediction because I erred on the side of conservatism. That's an important survival mechanism for any Nintendo fan, and I only wished I had practiced it on space 25 (the launch date announcement). After all, looking at  Wii and 3DS, Nintendo only announced the price a mere two months before release. If you're gonna play chicken with the Big N, you're gonna need to be made of sterner stuff.

14. When it comes to visual fidelity, I think that Wii U definitely showed it had more punch than the current generation of consoles. But I also doubt that most people, without obsessing over nitty gritty details, would notice that since Third-Party Multiplatform Games Would Look Mostly the Same on Wii U at E3. In truth, it's hard to expect much else because such games are still a work-of-progress and because in general ports are, well, ports. I may already have money in my budget for FOUR third-party ports this coming Wii U launch window, but caution bagged me another bingo space at E3.

15. Caution also bagged me the space for there being a Dragon Quest X No Show. I have to admit though, that one does make me sad. I'm starting to worry about it ever coming to North America at all.

17. As for Netflix on Wii U... *drool* Have you seen NWR's exclusive footage and impressions of the software? I cannot wait to get this in my living room and watch it on my Wii U GamePad from anywhere in my small house.

21. And finally, Support for Two Wii U GamePads was confirmed. Thank Goomba on that one.

I look at the predictions that didn't come true and I'm reminded of the damage that hype can wreak on an unprepared soul. This E3 was light on announcements, but I'm not discouraged; I think this means a more exciting ramp up to launch, during which Nintendo keeps talking about things like their actual launch date or their full Nintendo Network plans (beyond MiiVerse). As long as I get more third party games, and I still hope for GTA V or RE6 or some other surprise (I did NOT see Mass Effect 3 or Trine 2 coming!), I don't care that they weren't announced at E3. And as for that exclusive JRPG? Well, at some point in the future Nintendo will have to reveal what Monolith has been up to. And it will be glorious. Not E3 Bingo glorious, but glorious nonetheless.
