Every year we like to recognize the best in gaming on Nintendo consoles.
Wii - Best Graphics
There are some that claim Super Smash Bros. Brawl looks no better than its predecessor, Super Smash Bros. Melee. Well, that just isn't true. With additional character details and busier fighting arenas, the latest Smash Bros. game is one bustling with activity.
Little visual gags like Snake's box taunt remain amusing months after release, and the final smashes bring a kick of panache (or in some cases, absurdness) to the visual style. Brawl does a fantastic job of capturing the various gaming universes: Metal Gear's military complex, Wario Ware's manic crayon scrawling, and Donkey Kong's arcade minimalism are all in fine form. It's hard not to chuckle at Luigi's psychedelic aura, or Wario's big-mouthed munching, or that annoyingly cute Nintendog assist trophy. And, of course, character models like Zero Suit Samus and the game’s many full motion videos are drop-dead gorgeous. Several 2008 Wii games had bold artistic styles, making it difficult to choose a winner, but Masahiro Sakurai's team did a fantastic job of demonstrating what the Wii is capable of without sacrificing personality. That makes it our choice for the Best Wii Graphics in 2008.
