The Famicrew may have been thousands of miles away from E3, but that didn't stop them from experiencing the hype! This live show (now in audio form) is solely focussed on the big North American event that none of us went to, and there sure are a lot of opinions to be shared!

What differentiates this discussion from the dozens of other E3 shows you've listened to in the past week or so? Good question! Probably the focus on what it all means for Japan, but also the banter and ranting. It's not all rants, though. There was a lot to like at the show, and everything with hype gets discussed. By the way, in case you were thinking we gagged Ty, literally or figuratively, we didn't. Not till after the show anyway. Anyway, our old toys-to-life-loving friend Sairus seems to fill in the silence well enough.

Anyway, grab your wool mouth guards and step into the wonderful world of Japanese video games, as seen at an American event, by westerners watching it in Japan.

Please understand!

Talkback

I'll have you know Roy plays very differently from the other Fire Emblem characters, Lucina and Marth however are practically identical.

this episode was honestly a little bit hard for me to stomach. I tried really hard to watch the video podcast version of it while I was stuck at work while things were dead, and just... you guys are soul-crushingly dower all the time in the name of trolling or being too MLGpro or just... I don't even know.

I have one simple question for the lot of you, and I really mean it. What the hell makes you folks love Nintendo in earnest enough to get together and do a podcast every two weeks? there has to be SOMETHING outside of the same ad nauseum please understand jokes.

If Neal Roghnahan is paying you guys in spare skylanders, please at least be up front about it. James Charlton has a kid he should be raising instead of making an ass of himself every two weeks on this show. it's getting painful.

If it were up to me, we would have talked about Bloodstained the whole time  D:

Agreed with Clex Yoshi. I'm a pretty snarky person, but even I think the levels of snark are pretty high these last few episodes. I have no problem if you guys want to talk about other consoles/general gaming topics in Japan to break a bit from all the Nintendo bashing, even if it's justified.

Agreed. it's VERY justified, but at the same time you folks are making James and Lindy look like reasonable human beings and I don't wanna live in a world where that happens.

The only reason I'm answering this is cause you (Clex/Soren) are long-time listeners, which makes it worthwhile to respond to, but also confusing that you'd think that about us!

You do know that the WiiU is the only current-gen system I own and I love Nintendo right?
I have literally never bought a non-Nintendo system (outside of a PC), so my feelings are totally honest. I am a sarcastic/ironic person naturally, so that's how it comes out!

I think it's totally fair game to talk shit about something you care about, as long as you know it comes from a good place. Hopefully you agree that I talk more crap about the company than the games themselves.

However things you'll never hear from me "Nintendo, lolz, whatever, onto REAL consoles" or  "why don't they just go 3rd party/mobile-only already", which is what many multi-format podcasts boil down to (spoken or inferred).

All I can promise is that next episode it's going to be much more games-related, and I have some doozies to talk about, but what I can't promise is that I'll stop being sarcastic or stop crapping on stupid Nintendo policies!

One last thing, don't worry I have enough time to make an ass of myself AND raise my kid just fine!

SorenJune 30, 2015

Thank you for replying James!

I really don't want The Famicast's commitment to Nintendo criticism to waver because of my complaints. I think most of the points you guys raise every month are totally valid, even if we might disagree on who shoulders the blame (I blame NCL a lot more than Reggie, but we can agree to disagree). I do think the post-E3 news lull has hit you guys and listeners as well. It created an unfortunate timing where the last of the "E3 podcasts" on NWR could be interpreted as one of the more negative ones.  The unfortunate thing is that none of you guys had the chance to play the games during E3 (except for Xenoblade) like the RFN and Connectivity crews, so there was no real counter-balance from the criticism of the Digital Event and the games announced.

Hopefully you guys will get to go to TGS this year and play the games and come back with your own set of impressions.

I won't stop listening to the Famicast. I think it was more just a few podcasts hitting a sour note for most people at the worst possible time. We're all feeling the E3 blues. We are going to reach a real drought of games during the summer though, so there's always the chance of extended rounds of Fake-Or-Real. Right? Right?!?!

I listened back to the show again and I really thought we were fair in our criticisms, and balanced with the positive/negative as much as possible! We're all hyped for Mario Maker, tentatively hyped for Starfox and Yoshi, and the rest is just "meh" which is pretty much what every other podcast is saying, I really don't get the backlash here! Maybe it's just in the delivery? Who knows!

Anyway, next episode I have a huge 1st party game to talk about that I'm in love with, plus many other smaller (good) things! I got in touch with Ty and Fake or Real is ON, plus we're back on our normal agenda, so expect Japan charts (always a win for Nintendo), Fire Emblem hype, Rhythm Heaven chat, and probably little-to-no E3 talk!

Thanks for your continued listening and please understanding as always!

I'm with soren and don't want to dissuade your opinions and such. I wasn't trying to insinuate that this takes away from time with the kid, but rather energy. there's a level of commitment that comes with putting your face in front of a webcam and recording shtis sort of thing.

I think that being the japan crew and all, you guys had the intent to thunder shit on it much like the Nico-Nico crowd did. It actually would have gotten even more hilarious if they put Fatal frame in that direct in that regard.

James, Ty, Danny... PLEASE do not stop what you're doing. I do find famicast to be a listen that I prefer over Connectivity. I just felt some introspection was nessessary. I was actually hoping you were going to use my butthurt tieraid critical forum post as something to read on the show and do something that's a little heartwarming... or just make more Please Understand jokes.

One other question... why haven't you brought a bunch of banannas with you to one of the video podcasts yet? :P

Thanks for the clarification guys, and like I alluded to in my first post, I do appreciate comments from long-term listeners like you guys!
Maybe we're a bit on edge here after our run-in with NeoGAF, henceforth referred to a "SplatoonGate"!
I'm sure I can work in these comments into the next show, and maybe even a bunch of bananas!  :P:

Think Positive!

To clarify my post, I don't really care if you are positive or negative, you guys are great fun regardless. I  just wanted to post that dumb link to an even dumber song. A particularly bad rendition of it, too.
You're welcome.

Thanks Fatty! In the end, my aim is to entertain first, provide accurate information last.  :P:
