In an unprecedented second roundtable, even more developers speak.

A third-party-focused roundtable, we understand representatives from Ubisoft will be speaking.

6:14:54: You know this is big because Iwata and Yves Guillemot are both on stage together.

6:15:24: "Stronger support than ever before."

6:15:53: Iwata is reading from printed notes. He keeps saying "Eww-B-I-Soft".

6:16:33: Side note, I'm sitting next to Geoff Keighley of Game Trailers. He likes using two phones at once.

6:17:14: There are two Wii U controllers on stage. Now Yves is speaking.

6:18:24: Yves Guillemot is the CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft. He's talking generally about their support for Wii and excitement about Wii U.

6:19:58: Yves confirms 5 games on the way for Wii U. Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Ghost Recon Online, Killer Freaks, Assassin's Creed, and Raving Rabbids.

6:21:35: Now Ghost Recon Online team from Singapore heads to the stage. Hugues Ricour and Claude Langlais.

6:21:55: Hugues Ricour, Senior Producer and Claude Langlais, Technical Director

6:22:40: GRO ready to be re-invented with "Touch pad gameplay breakthroughs" and "Always-on" online connectivity.

6:23:21: This is a lot more scripted than last night's roundtable with Nintendo people. The host is reading from a script. Time for a GRO trailer.

6:24:29: No indication this trailer has any Wii U specifics to show off. Full of corny interplay among the players, of course.

6:25:00: And the female player wins in this trailer. Maybe she is a Frag Doll?

6:26:04: Classes include Assault (primary offense), Recon (stealthy), and Specialist (uses AEGIS Shield ability).

6:27:05: CROSSCOM 2.0 is their name for how the Wii U controller will be used. Real military use devices similar to this controller on the battlefield for intel gathering and action commands. The photos do look quite a lot like the Wii U controller.

6:28:36: Tactical map is shown on the controller. It's interactive; you can set an attack beacon to direct your teammates. For the missile strike perk, you control the missile via motion controls.

6:29:43: Each player has a personal drone that can apparently be controlled via the controller screen, showing overhead views of enemies and tagging them for your tactical map. This info is also shown to your teammates.

6:30:49: The devs found that it's really fun to send things from your controller to the TV, like that shuriken concept shown at the press conference.

6:31:23: Time for a live demo. There are two guys, each using a Wii U controller, though of course they are playing on separate consoles because this is an online game.

6:32:17: This multiplayer demo is exclusive to this roundtable. They are waiting for it to load after having chosen their gun customizations.

6:33:58: From here, this looks like a typical 360/PS3 game, visually. Kind of exciting to see a live Wii U multiplayer demo. This is much more of a real game than anything else we've seen.

6:35:58: The tactical map shown on the controller is 3D (overhead) and rotates with the character's movement. Now one guy is flying his drone with touch controls. Once marked by the drone, his opponent shows up through obstacles on the TV display.

6:38:14: Live demo is over. Going over online features. Personalized acct system, flexible friends list (secured), ranking & matchmaking.

6:40:22: Ghost Feed - shows persistent online stats and activities even when your TV is off. This looks a bit like Twitter or NFS Autolog, shown on the Wii U controller.

6:42:06: From Ubisoft Montpelier, it's time for Killer Freaks From Outer Space.

6:42:24: Exclusive for Wii U

6:43:20: This is the team that brought Red Steel and Rayman Raving Rabbids to the Wii launch. Sounds like they have been thinking about how to use the Wii U controller for a while.

6:43:50: "Redefining FPS competitive multiplayer"

6:44:55: "We Believe in Living Room Fun" - They will support local multiplayer as well. Trailer time.

6:46:23: Appears to be set in London. A guy is walking around with a gun, talking to himself in a British accent. The city is in flames, infested by reptilian creatures about a foot tall. They look like extremely violent Rabbids.

6:46:55: At the end of this trailer, a giant robot with spider-like legs walks through the streets.

6:47:47: A "big blob of pus" has traveled through outer space and landed in London, spawning these creatures and killing most of the population.

6:48:32: So your character is the kind of guy who was always preparing for the apocalypse and finally got one. (He is a bit crazy, but managed to survive when most people perished.)

6:49:04: Their focus is on controls, and they want to revolutionize how you control an FPS.

6:50:34: Definitely an FPS, set in London 2012. The demo driver isn't even looking at a TV. He's playing directly on the Wii U controller, moving around and tilting it all over, just like in Face Raiders.

6:52:15: Again, the visuals are roughly on par with current HD systems. The TV and controller outputs appear to be identical and simultaneous.

6:53:03: Unlike Red Steel, there is plenty of blood in this demo, though it's not completely over-the-top gore like Ninja Gaiden 3.

6:53:20: Okay, there's a jetpack.

6:54:41: I'd say the style of this game is similar to Duke Nukem' 3D, with a touch of Raving Rabbids in terms of the creature animations and a slightly cartoonish style to the art design.

6:55:48: Player encountered two freaks in a hallway, one spanking the other. What the hell? Then he looked out through a hole in the wall and saw one of those giant tripods walking through the center.

6:57:02: Now time for a multiplayer demo. This second guy is using a Classic Controller Pro; they are playing locally, on the same system.

6:59:31: This mode is called "Real Time Enemy Director". The CC Pro player is looking at the TV, playing normal FPS style. The Wii U controller held by the other player shows an overhead view for sending aliens to attack the first guy.

7:00:56: This is like a much more evolved version of Perfect Dark's Counter-Op mode. There are a few different kinds of enemies to send down, with limited numbers of each and an energy meter. This is totally an RTS vs. FPS mode.

7:02:11: It's not clear at this point whether Killer Freaks will also have online multiplayer.

7:03:00: Marc Parenteau from Ubi Quebec comes up to talk about Assassin's Creed.

7:03:34: "Powerful Multi-Core Architecture; Large Memory Capacity"

7:04:04: "New Console Fully Supports Graphical Shaders; Compatibility with our Engines and Assets"

7:04:42: Possibilities include "Persistent on-screen Map; Interactive Database; Fast Weapon selection; Alternative Puzzle; Eagle Vision/Sense"

7:06:14: This is something fans, media, and developers needed to hear -- Wii U will allow third-parties to bring over their games without compromise, and with opportunities to use the new controller's capabilities.

7:07:23: No demo for AC. Time for Q&A

7:07:50: No details yet on whether AC is a new game or port of existing AC title.

7:08:50: No answer/confirmation on using two Wii U controllers at the same time.

7:09:42: Killer Freaks look a bit like the Rabbids because from the same developers. However, there will be a lot more enemies than the ones shown today.

7:12:21: No comment on cross-platform (with PC) online play on Ghost Recon Online.

7:15:40: GRO is a free to play on PC... no decisions made yet on retail/download/etc on Wii U.

7:16:30: My question: how does the power of Wii U compare to the current gen hardware? Answer: it's too early to tell, as the hardware is still evolving a bit and we're still learning how to use it.

7:18:22: They have a lot more prototypes internally, just chose to show these two tonight.

7:19:43: Could Killer Freaks become exhausting to play with motion controls? Answer: You can also sit on the couch and use smaller movements to control the game. (Not mentioned: whether you can opt out of motion controls completely.)

7:21:11: Can the Ghost Feed notify you of events like a phone would? They'll take that into consideration.

7:22:43: Does local multiplayer like that in Killer Freaks still have a place in this day and age? Answer: Definitely. We are big FIFA fans and love to play it on the couch together.

7:23:32: Killer Freaks will definitely have online multiplayer for up to four players as well, including multiple FPS players against one gamer master (RTS gameplay).

I'm most curious about Nintendo support and online options.

ChiramiiJune 08, 2011

News about online services is indeed welcome!

ShyGuyJune 08, 2011

Tell that douche Geoff Keighley that if he is going to play jerk face hardball with Reggie, he shouldn't be a hypocrite lobbing softballs at the other game company executives.

TheFleeceJune 08, 2011

Online talk is good, please ask about Friend Codes if you can.

thank god somebody else noticed this.

he was even joking about it afterwards with the whole sparring match remark.

he was *** *** ***** with his ** ** * ****** over Jack Tretton's *** ***** ** ***.  but with Reggie? he was like interrupting him and kept pressing and just being difficult.

PS - I didn't really edit out a bunch of words, that was me being silly =D

Yeah I believe it's all wrapped up.

So far the best thing I heard was "This is something fans, media, and developers needed to hear -- Wii U will allow third-parties to bring over their games without compromise, and with opportunities to use the new controller's capabilities." That's great news to hear.
