... I think I suddenly understand why during the telethon why Dr. Metts was asking if I was secretly Alex Culafi.

I'm glad that you're able to have some optimism about this and that you can come from the perspective who loves the original title as much as I do. That being said, the DS game felt like such an insult to me. the level design and some of the sprite work was MAYBE the only thing that game had going for it, because I disliked the baby switching mechanic, the constant one-ways, the terrible sound design , the over-abuse of the two screen view. It made me wish I was playing a Tose platformer instead. Seriously, Super Princess Peach is a better game than Yoshi's Island DS. it has a similar sprite style, but the music and sound design is memorable, the character's abilities are centeralized and you don't get screwed out of 100%ing a level because you didn't switch to the appropriate baby for the part of the level you're currently in and they put a one-way in front of the baby changing spot.

Yoshi's Island DS kinda reeked of Donkey Kong 64 for me a bit, in all honesty. Donkey Kong 64 with really godawful music. It felt like a cheap imitation of Yoshi's Island, and I just... I couldn't stomach it.

I believe Tezuka had a bit of involvement in Yoshi's Island DS as well, but admittingly Tezuka's team has had the NSMB games to learn with a bit, and... the music from the trailer has me a little more hopeful if it's a menu theme of some sort and not an actual stage theme. maybe castles will sound menacing again and now like I wandered into the ball pit at the local McDonald's in the middle of the night.

Hey man, you should take that comparison as a compliment! What was the context?

Also, yeah, I totally see why people don't like the game and they have every to dislike it. I guess I played that game when I was (comparatively) pretty young so I didn't have a super negative viewpoint. I re-played it, and while it's certainly not as good as the original, I certainly didn't mind most of the game.

P.S. Be sure to note that my optimism doesnt have a perfect streak.

I got on to talk about Donkey Kong 64 at the end of the Radio Trivia segment of 2013's telethon for child's play, where I expressed my ire for the game. It was just weird getting in the skype call and the first thing Johnny asks me is if I'm secretly you! good times.

... also, Ouch. Speaking of games people harbor extreme resentment and ire for...
