It's rumored that Walmart will drop the price of the 3DS three days prior to Nintendo's official date.

Walmart may be dropping the price of 3DS early. According to the website Cheap Ass Gamer, they have received information from a trusted source that Walmart will be dropping the price to $169.99 on August 9th, 3 days prior to the scheduled date of August 11th.

Those that have been hesitant about buying the 3DS thus far may wish to take advantage of this offer. If you log into the eShop before 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on August 11th, you will be made an Ambassador and will be eligible for the 20 free downloadable titles that will only be made available to early adopters.

I hope this is true.

It's been confirmed by a WalMart employee.

I'm sure UncleBob could confirm it too if someone asked (he was the first one to report it here yesterday afterall).

I really hope Target follows their lead if this is true. I want to get one but do not want to buy it from Walmart if I can.
I would also like to thank Nintendo for dropping the price to exactly how much I received in birthday/Father's Day money. That made the decision of what to get a heck of a lot easier.

Why not buy it from Walmart? If it's company policies, Walmart is better towards civil right than Target.

TJ SpykeAugust 07, 2011

All three of those reference the same lawsuit, which was ultimately ruled in Walmart's favor. Anybody can sue a company for any reason. Walmart also doesn't contribute money to political candidates that fight against civil rights, whereas Target has done that as recently as last year.

My Mother worked for Walmart for a while and was treated like garbage by a couple of the managers (given impossible tasks with short notice, having no help, being pulled for some "emergency"project then getting written up when her real work was not done). It got to the point she was punching out then working another 6 hours or so in order to get her work done and not get yelled at. It reached the point she fell asleep exhausted during dinner with a knife in her hand and I had to try to figure out how to remove it without one of us getting stabbed. All of the managers knew what was going on and did not care. My hatred of Walmart is not some hipster they are evil thing, it is personal.

I would love to stop shopping at Walmart because most of the clientele are insufferable dicks, the employees are indifferent to the point where I question whether they're still alive, and I findĀ  many of their business practices to be morally questionable. However, I buy a good deal of groceries from Walmart and as long as Honey Maid Graham Crackers remain on perpetual sale, like a dancing monkey, I'll probably keep going. /fail

I really hope other retailers do the same. I wonder if gamers will buy Nintendo 3ds now. I'm not a big fan of walmart either.

I got the price drop and connected to the eshop. :D

BlackNMild2k1August 09, 2011

Looks like I need to go back to Best Buy and get my price matched early :D

I'm pretty sure that price adjustment policy only applies to advertised prices.

If you check Walmart's website you'll see the current price is still listed as at $249.99 (the $169.99 rollback is listed too, but only for preorders which supposedly won't ship until August 12).

Whether or not they're already selling at the new lower price in stores right now is irrelevant. As long as they're not advertising it that way, don't expect competitors to match the price.

BlackNMild2k1August 09, 2011

I'll talk them into it.

They can either do it today or they can do it on Friday.
Either way they are gonna do it, so they might as well get the jump on it now.
It's not like my 30 days cuts off before the 12th so I'm not worried about it either way nor am I trying to circumvent the 30 day policy.
Besides, the manager at my sister's BB is a total pushover and will cave without much effort if he even resist at all.

Just got home with mine, my local Target dropped the price to watch Walmart. Chance thing I saw it too, my kid dragged over to the toys and I caught the price out of the corner of my eye.
