Xenoblade and The Last Story Coming Stateside?

Operation Rainfall has claimed a partial victory.

The Last Story and Xenoblade Chronicles may be heading to North America after all, despite Nintendo of America's continued insistence that the company has no plans to localize those titles.

On the official Operation Rainfall blog, a post has gone up claiming that the American localization of Xenoblade has been finished for over a month, and the process is well underway for The Last Story. No word was given on the potential localization for Pandora's Tower, but even with the first two titles, this is a major win for those hoping for more RPGs to play on their Wii later this year.

Although Operation Rainfall was unwilling to disclose their source, who allegedly resides within Nintendo, they maintain confidence that the information is true based on that source's identity.

Somebody at Nintendo listened to RFN.

broodwarsJuly 07, 2011

Well, I certainly hope their sources are true.  While I still have issues as to how Nintendo of America has handled this situation (especially if they were planning on bringing these over all along), just having the games brought to the U.S. would be enough to satisfy me for the moment.  Not getting Pandora's Tower would be unfortunate, but if there was a game of the 3 I had to lose that would be the one.

TJ SpykeJuly 07, 2011

I would change the title if I were you, this is hardly confirmation of anything. A fan group claiming to have some mysterious source is not all that reliable. I hope it's true, but it's not confirmed.

That's why it says "RUMOR" over to the right hand side, for what it's worth.

TJ SpykeJuly 07, 2011

Aahh, sorry. I was checking the article from the forums (where the Rumor part isn't showing up), not from the front page.

SundoulosJuly 07, 2011

Yeah...hardly a confirmation, but the most encouraging news that we've heard regarding the matter.  At any rate, hopefully it will encourage people to keep sending those letters.  I'd very much like to see Xenoblade and The Last Story released here.

Very cool if true. Both are great games and need to come Stateside.

WrathOfSamus777July 07, 2011

I'm not getting my hopes up until Nintendo announces something, which they've already said they have nothing to announce.

NeoStar9XJuly 07, 2011

I do hope this true but that's as far as I'm going to go at the moment.

steveyJuly 07, 2011

BOOO!!!!!

Give me Pandora's tower!

MaryJaneJuly 07, 2011

The way this game has gone viral is a great reason to keep people guessing about the release. The more tension they build, the greater chance of a JRPG actually selling well over here.

EnnerJuly 07, 2011

Hoping it comes true. With all the fuss, I will put my money where my mouth is and order the games day one. Well, at least one of them. Xenoblade looks like the sprawling and colorful adventure I'm looking for. Though, I'm getting a good Valkyria Chronicles vibe from The Last Story. As for Pandora's Tower, I have the least interest in that one, but I still hope it comes along later.

It'd be too easy to make stuff like this up, so I'm not taking this as anything.

Starfox 2 (allegedly), Mother, Disaster... yeah, I'm not going to believe it until I'm putting a Club Nintendo code in.

Although Nintendo hasn't done a Q3 release list yet, have they?

TJ SpykeJuly 07, 2011

Not for North America I think, I know they did for Europe.

Lady MushroomJuly 07, 2011

Exciting news - let's hope it's true!

TheFleeceJuly 07, 2011

I want to believe this is true. I'm a portable gamer at heart, but the Wii needs quality especially now. I really want this to be true.

FlipsterJuly 07, 2011

If this is true I think Nintendo may just be getting desperate to put something new on the Wii for US consumers as there has been talk of a drought of games for the system. Between that and Nintendo probably hearing about the pleading fans who want these games to come out in the US, they may have just thought they might as well to appease fans and say that they're listening when really releasing these games stateside would sort of be killing two birds with one stone (two birds with two stones? Or maybe three, depending on whether or not the other will come out in the states...whatever you know what I mean).

I rather lose Lost Story.  I was looking forward to Pandora's Tower when its weirdness started to show.

TJ SpykeJuly 08, 2011

The Last Story looks pretty bland to me,but I would still like it here. Pandora's Tower looks more interesting to me and I want to see it released here.

Honestly, Xenoblade is the least intriguing to me. Either way, I'd rather see all three of them come over.

Hmm...that brings up an not-so-likely, but still possible scenario--  what if treehouse is doing localization, BUT NOA isn't doing publishing or distribution, or at least, not doing it alone?  It could be that they're still working out an agreement with someone else, and that's why they have to put out this "no plans" bs.

Nintendo saying they have no plans doesn't mean they're not doing it. They'll say that if you ask them about something 10 minutes before they're going to announce it. Or if not that, "Nintendo does not comment on rumors or speculation."

BeautifulShyJuly 08, 2011

Well this is pretty good news if true.
At the moment as long as some of these come out to the states then I am happy with it. I'm pretty interested in all of the games so I don't have a specifiic combonation of ones I want here other then all of them.

Retro DeckadesJuly 08, 2011

I was never interested in Pandora's Tower, but definitely want Xenoblade and The Last Story. I've heard samplings from the Xenoblade soundtrack, and it makes me really want to experience that game.

Ian SaneJuly 08, 2011

If NOA seriously had this close to release, why the hell would they not announce it at E3?  You would assume that the first title would drop within the last half of the year so an E3 announcement would make sense.  Either NOA is not releasing these games or they're so fucking dumb that they don't even show them at E3 when they really needed to show SOMETHING to show the Wii was still alive.  And I seriously doubt that NOA would be convinced by what they no doubt regard as a bunch of nerds complaining on the internet.

I figure they're not coming.  I need to see a real announcement to even slightly think otherwise.  If they were coming all along NOA has bungled this big time.

Bman87301July 08, 2011

I have to point out, that part about "Nintendo of America's continued insistence that the company has no plans to localize those titles" is INACCURATE. What they actually said was they had "no plans to bring ...at this time". Aside from the obvious "at this time" part, there's another key difference between what you reported and they actually said-- "Bringing" and "localizing" are two very different things. All this source actually confirmed was that there was a localization. And NOA never actually said they weren't still localizing.

I hate to have to rain on everyone's parade, but it should be at least noted that localizing doesn't necessarily indicate plans for a release. Especially in a case like this where NOE had already taken care of 99% the job already. Since an English translation has already been done and paid for by NOE, and NOA could easily throw together a NTSC build with very little expense. In fact, would be dumb not their part not to have one already prepared in the event if the games sell well enough in Europe to make them reconsider. It could also be handy to already have one ready for a third party to buy the rights to publish.

There's plenty of reasons to make a localization and just sit on it. So, we shouldn't assume this means anything. Nevertheless, I still am confident we will see a release for Xenoblade unless it's a total bomb in Europe.

This is possibly a sad truth, as Eartbound for the NES comes to mind.

motangJuly 09, 2011

I just hope this is true. I would love to play XenoBlade and the Last Story. Right now my PS3 is getting all the attention until I pick up Golden Eye 007 and Skyward Sword (when it comes out).

LeontJuly 09, 2011

I dont trust this information to be honest. Why would Nintendo just a few weeks before say that they have no plan of releasing those games to the states? Just so we could find out that the games are actually all ready being prepared for the States? It sounds more like “hope” then “an inside information”

TJ SpykeJuly 09, 2011

Nintendo always says stuff like they have no plans to release a title until they decide to officially announce it, just standard practice.

I felt the same way when all this first started and I still felt it tugging at a tiny heart string the fact that nothing was shown at E3 warrants this kind of reaction from fans. Even if we did nothing about the news and just sucked on it and Nintendo still released any or all of the games- Operation Rainfall has a legit right to exist, if only for the fact that fans need a more unified outlet on order to be heard.

I got so far as placing XenoBlade in my Amazon cart before I decided not to pre-order it. After thinking about it, I probably would not buy the game when it launched, not because I'm not interested, but because it does not appeal to me as much as Nintendo's other upcoming games (Mario Party 9, Fortune Street, Kirby Wii, Zelda, etc).

I can understand that as well since I haven't bought a video game this entire year. The Wii is a dying cause- if Nintendo doesn't bring at least one RPG to the Wii I will feel it's a failure for not meeting my needs. I've gotten more activity out of my DS and I've been playing the same game for about a year now. So what titles or games are you looking for from Nintendo?
