Really, we're sick of talking about it.

It's always fun to have guests on the show, especially our website's founder and Kojima zealot, Billy Berghammer. He joins our fully reunited crew (Jon, James, Greg, and Jonny) for a two-hour radio romp.

After missing a couple weeks of New Business due to E3, it felt good to talk about all the games we've been playing. James just got a 360, and Jonny has one on order (at the time of recording), and we've heard that a lot of other Nintendo fans are starting to "jump in". But of course, we still have loads of Nintendo games to discuss, from Astro Boy to Boom Blox and much more.

In the second half, we find some closure on E3 with a discussion of the aftermath to Nintendo's poor showing, including commentary from sites like Yahoo and Penny Arcade. Billy talks about some hot E3 games on other systems, since our NWR crew focused on the Nintendo platforms for some odd reason. Finally, we take a look at the remaining questions on Nintendo fans' minds... which looks a lot like the list of questions we had before E3! From storage solutions to Nintendo's next handheld system, this discussion maps out the territory of what we'll probably be talking about for months to come.

"LIKE TOTALLY"

Oh and I agree with Greg.  More Nintendo! These are getting semi-boring.

And Billy needs to work on his definition of "Hippie Music".  Blues has nothing to do with hippies.

I'm sorry about the AAC feed.  I'm having some issues with the server and I've notified everybody I can about them.  I promise to get it up ASAP.

I wish there was more to talk about, honestly.  Even excluding E3, there isn't much to talk about on Wii besides Madworld, de Blob, Fatal Frame, and The Conduit.  Same for DS...we can only mention Bangai-O Spirits so many times.  There's nothing to speak of on WiiWare or VC either.  Nothing Nintendo is doing right now is that exciting.

Then it should have only been an hour long.  Instead of having to wait for half an hour to hear the next Nintendo portion of the show.

I enjoy the extra stuff talking about other systems. But this recent stuff has been excessive.

It was honestly also annoying having two haters on the show, specifically Jon and Billy. I mean bring EVERYTHING back to some negative about Nintendo gets a little irritating.  James does it too, but at least it's witty and discussion focuses less on "Nintendo sucks" and more on the solution or something. I actually pretty interesting when Johnny, Greg, and James get talking about how stupid Nintendo is sometimes, but it's much less of a bitch fest than this was.

Then we might as well change the name of the site and the podcast to something else. Seriously after hearing Greg as host there is PLENTY of Nintendo news to talk about that is fascinating, it makes me quite sad Greg isn't hosting. Your guy's E3 show was awesome. Heck why not get people on from the staff that aren't in on this loony hate Nintendo binge like Kairon and Mr. Jack. Most of us here are still Nintendo fans so I don't think it is too out there to suggest the podcast represents us more.

There are already too few Nintendo centric Podcasts and I'd hate to see we lose this one too because the host has turned against Nintendo.

I haven't turned against Nintendo.  It remains to be seen whether Nintendo turns against me.

The idea of Kairon being a loony Nintendo hater is so hilarious.  He's a fanboy if I've ever seen one.

I know the show has been pretty negative for the past couple of weeks.  That's because of all the E3 discussion.  It was a very negative E3 for Nintendo coverage.  But as we noted on Ep. 108, we are putting E3 behind us to talk about other things, so I expect the tone to naturally shift in other directions.

Or Deadly Creatures, Wario Land, SPRay, Dragon Quest, Sonic Chronicles, Tales of Symphonia sequels, Fragile, Chrono Trigger, Clone Wars, Tecmo Bowl (shame on you Lindy for not including a game you've even admitted to being excited for), Mushroom Men, Force Unleashed, Sim City, Samba, other multiplatform games that are actually looking promising (Oh like GUITAR HERO WORLD TOUR or EA's sports games), and then those oh so dreaded casual games. Yeah I guess there is nothing to talk about.  ;)

Like I said even pre-E3 Greg proved there was plenty to talk about. That is what I mean about the show lacking balance when 3 of the 4 have turned against Nintendo (Well 2 are halfway there while another, named Mr. Lindy Luthor has). It isn't that there is nothing to talk about, they are just more interested in 360 and PS3 style games. Why not get Kairon or Mr. Jack in as guests to balance things out every once in awhile.

Look I'm not the guy who says I just can't enjoy a PS3 or 360, I do, and sometimes a lot. But I know when people are getting ridiculous. And the ridiculous was on this podcast and several of the threads around here.

Yeah, and none of those games interest me aside from Tecmo Bowl.  What do you want me to do?  Fake interest in games?  I can't do that.  I can't fake interest in Wii Madden or Guitar Hero either, sorry.  And there isn't anything on WiiWare or VC to speak of, either.  If Nintendo gave me - me, not somebody who's happy to get table scraps on a console that should have much higher-profile titles - something to be excited about, I'd be raving about it.

Well I for one thought it was a good show. In fact, I thought Greg's New Business section dragged the most. (No offense, Greg!) I guess that makes me one of these supposed haters.

Let me ask you, do you even know anything about the majority of those games? Why no excitement for Wario Land which is looking extremely polished and quite traditional? You aren't excited about Mega Man 9 (Yeah I know it is coming out on 360 or PS3 but still the versions should be similar)?

Besides I was talking about the crew in general, there are many games that can be spoken of that are looking quite promising, not "What Lindy likes to talk about".  You stated there was nothing to talk about besides those select games, and that is completely untrue. It may be for you but it doesn't mean others won't be interested in them. I could say Resistance 2 or Gears of War 2 aren't that exciting for me to talk about, but guess what, if I was on a show with more than one person that caters to the 360 audience I would talk about them and think they are relevant. Heck I would even talk about Bangai-O which I have ZERO interest in (Yeah I went there!)

E308 was like getting beaten down to a bloody mess (There will be blood kind of beat down) and just reliving it, over and over again. I much rather MOVE ON and pretend it didn't happen.

You guys could of at least talked about how Nintendo apologized about E3.

Greg is better host because he can control the mess. I only have a DS and Wii and can't afford a 360 or anything so its just salt in the wounds to hear you guys talk about it.

Billy wasn't bad, but still should of organized better and e3 been 20 minutes of the show not the majority of it. I much rather have impressions talked about than more ranting.

Overall 6 / 10

I believe the Nintendo apology happened the day after we taped that show.  As for E3, I have nothing left to say about it.  I'm still dumbfounded by what happened there, but I'm done with it.

As for what I like, I'm not going to apologize for my tastes.  None of those games scream out "must-have".  That's just my opinion.  I can't say much about games I'm not interested in.  I've never been a huge fan of the Wario Land series, and Mega Man 9 is, well, another 8-bit Mega Man game at the end of the day.  I've read up on all of these games and don't have anything against them, but I'm not circling their release date on the calendar, either.  Madworld is about the only Wii game I'm interested in at this point, because its content is so radically different from anything else on the platform.

DAaaMan64July 28, 2008

LOL his best retort to ALL OF THIS was, "I'm sorry I'm not interested in talking about what our listeners want to hear about."

GoldenPhoenixJuly 28, 2008

Well here are my quick thoughts after hearing the show:

First off I want to plead the 5th on talking about your guest. With that said this has to be one of the most negative anti-Nintendo shows I've heard from you guys. What depressed me the most is Greg getting shoved in the corner, and I could not help but notice displeasure in Greg's voice by the show being dominated by 360/PS3. I really hope this will not be common because if the unthinkable happens and Greg becomes disenchanted by the show and takes a lesser role I will be leaving it as well, and I am sure many will follow. It is no secret Greg is the most popular member of your team and to distance him in episodes like this is sickening to be honest. Hopefully it is just a one time thing.

In regards to Lindy's tastes. That is great you have a opinion but at least share them on Wii games whether they are positive or not, it is called discussion and no one is saying you have to agree just that it would be nice to hear more talk on games that Wii owners will be interested in. Like I said the professional thing to do is whether you personally are excited for something at least discuss it.

P.S. Apologies to Johnny it is still evident you still support Wii, though I still disagree with how the show was handled today.

Yeah, this was a bitchfest, but that's because it was about E3 (again) and Billy and I have nothing positive to say about that.

Since that's done, you won't hear the absurd level of bitching going forward.

Edit: And yes GP, the talk will be more Nintendo-centric from now on.  Why?  Because now that E3 is over, Wii games are actually getting announced.  Ha!

I have to say that I enjoyed this show, as always, because the hosts echo my frustrations with Nintendo.  The frustration they voice is the frustration I've felt as a traditional Nintendo fan for the last 3 years, so it's nice to know that it's not just me being frustrated like this - even one of the best Nintendo sites out there is frustrated.

So yeah.  Don't be afraid to voice your opinions just because the people in the forums want to hear about how awesome Nintendo is.  Keep up the great work.

Good to hear from Grand Master Billy again. Candid, uncut, and uncensored. Though I wonder why he's no longer with GI...

I think Heavy Rain/Mirror's edge is going to be a preview of the challenge of the next console cycle: Conquering the Uncanny Valley. Though in Nintendo's case, we'll be lucky if they'll output 720p.  ;)

5 people was a bit much. Its hard to get everyone's two cents (sixpence in Mr.Leahy's case?) equally, Greg got tuned out for a good chunk.

Having e3 open to the public is a great idea. The Lepzeig system would insure that A)Those watching at home get to see the glitz and glamour B) Journalists can get their hands on impressions, interviews and previews up on their respective sites in a timely manner.

I think part of the the problem with this episode was that only 2 of the featured panelists had attended E3. It makes it quite hard to really open the floor to everyone when talking about the show floor. Overall I liked it, I own all the systems so I don't mind hearing the impressions of Jonny/Billy. I wouldn't doubt that the next episode will be chock-full of Wii luvin.

If the crew needs a hand, I'd be glad to lend my voice as I have been playing quite a few Wii games as of late after finishing up Assassin's Creed.

We talked about many of those games during the E3 shows... didn't you listen?  You can't complain about us not discussing games that we discussed.  As for Force Unleashed, you probably don't want to hear what I think of it because it will make you sad and reinforce the illusion that I don't like Wii games.

I will say this again: We had to get E3 out of our systems.  I didn't even want to talk about it much on 108, but Billy was already confirmed for the show and it only made sense to let him talk about the event.  E3 is completely behind us now, a footnote in history.

Mr. Wormhead can talk about Ace Combat 6 all you want. BUT I thought you already played the heck out of it before, I remember a Wormhead praise session for the game in a previous show.

If I weren't completely addicted to this show I'd stop listening if it were no longer on iTunes. Would you at least do an RSS feed so I could get it automatically downloaded in iTunes that way? Also, good to hear Ace Combat 6 is great, it's one opf the things I plan to pick up when I get a 360.

There are two RSS feeds for the show, one for the MP3 and one for the AAC version.  We put links to both in every episode's article on the site.

All I see are links to direct download the episode in those formats, which I used when iTunes wasn't working right.

Oops, actually the feeds are on the podcast index page:
https://www.nintendoworldreport.com/podcast.cfm?series=rfn

I thought they were in the articles too, but you're right, they're not.  Maybe I'll start adding them with this week's episode!

GP: I did talk about Ace Combat 6 in a previous podcast, but it was just the demo I had played.  I actually two-day blitzed the entire game starting last Monday.

My problem with the RSS feed for iTunes is how freaking convoluted it is.  It is literally over twice as long as the MP3 feed, and it requires me build the chapter bookmarks.  Doing that by hand is time consuming.

At some point when Ace Combat 6 drops to something reasonable ($39.99, for example), I'll pick it up.  I've had my eyes on it for a while.

Yeah, unless you plan to play it extensively online the 60 dollar price point is unreasonable.  It's only about four to six hours long.

yeah I don't mind him. Have anyone ever asked him if he likes how his website has evolved? Or is that taboo ? I can see now why he left since he is all but left Nintendo gaming as well so that perspective is unique but I am curious how he feels about the website. Is he cocky about it? I'm the founder bitch you can't tell me to shut up! That would be great to do an interview with him

Billy still does keep in touch with staff memebers from the old days, and gives feedback on the site as a whole.

Wait, what? Billeh is a free agent? In that case, I want Billeh back at PGC, err I mean NWR! :)

I'm under embargo.

I think you're confusing Billy with the CEO of Facebook.  8)

Where's that video that Kairon's supposed to upload for our entertainment and joy to make fun of the staff?

ShyGuyJuly 31, 2008

Where is Kairon in general?

I hear he is busy playing SPOGS Racing and cannot be bothered.

He's a busy guy.  He did do some quick editing for me yesterday, but I haven't seen a whole lot of him beyond that.

Sorry for the bump, but I'm way behind in my RFN.

How old is Billy?  I don't mean to be (very) insulting, but he sounds quite juvenile in this podcast.  Everything he said was holy fuck this and jerking each other off that.  It comes across as highly unprofessional.

Billy is in his late 30s, or he may have just turned 40.  In his defense, he has lived in Minnesota for most of his life, so that's just the local dialect.

LAWLZ at this post. It kinda depends on where in Minnisota. But that's okay, I loved the post regardless.

I grew up in Alabama and can dish it out just as well as I can take it.

I'm from Washington, and all I got was a spoon. :/

Is everyone on Live from Minnesota, too?  Seriously--I'm surprised he didn't call Greg a jew faggot towards the end of the podcast.

ShyGuySeptember 25, 2008

Greg is jewish?
