Bowling never felt more complete than right here and now.
If you ever played Wii Sports Resort, you pretty much know what to expect with this version of Bowling. This entry of the sport in Wii Sports Club didn't exactly change up the rules or make the controls even shinier or nicer. The Wii U GamePad is not even used in any new ways to make up for it either. Despite this, when it is all said and done, Bowling proves once again to be a great time and I am here to tell you why.
New to Wii Sports Club are online options that are available in Bowling right from the get go in a lag free environment. It is surprisingly engaging and the best part is that you can play it with up to four people. It doesn't matter if you play against friends, random strangers or other club members as the Miiverse messages truly give the thing its colors allowing players to interact with each other in an indirect, Nintendo fashion. What is even better though, is that you are not just restricted from playing a standard game of bowling. You can also play the Spin Control challenges and the 100 Pin Bowling from Wii Sports Resort against others. The changes in the rules are pretty entertaining. While 100 Pin Bowling is pretty straight forward, Roadblock Challenges have an unpredictable factor which has you moving your ball across some pretty tricky walls. This keeps the game fresh and fun.
Of course, these three modes can be played alone or locally with a group as well. There are three new modes which are exclusive to the local gameplay. In multiplayer Bowling, Shoot for the Spares has you trying to hit a small amount of pins with a single ball. This sounds easy enough, but then the multipliers hit the field, it becomes tricky to manage both aspects. With the Skittle Skills challenges, you will have to roll a ball at various pins set-up all across the lane. Every set-up is worth a certain amount of points and if you don't earn enough a couple of times, it is all over. You can freely choose between all 25 challenges, but be warned that the latter ones will make you scratch your head. Finally, there are the Triple Whammy 100 Pin Challenges, which consist of seven special shapes made out of 100 pins. The big difference here is that you have three balls to make it all work, which is pretty forgiving. All of the modes do something clever to turn the bowling concept around and they certainly prove to be plenty of fun.
Wii Sports Club Bowling is a nice package for every lover of the sport. The game offers six different modes of play, of which half can be played over an internet connection. Naturally, the game is a lot of fun alone or with friends, so it is handy that you can boot it up directly from the Wii U. It doesn't do anything greatly new or innovative and it is bummer that the Wii U GamePad went unused, but those are just a few raindrops on a sunny day.
