Titus invites you to fly into the danger zone. *rimshot*
Titus' latest version of Top Gun: Combat Zones for the GameCube was shown on their showfloor today. Four different missions were playable, and only the Tomcat jet was available, while the other seven planes (Hornet, Raptor, and 5 bonus ones) weren't playable.
The game's controls are as follows:
Also, the D-pad is used to manipulate the camera and the radar map.
Overall, the game controls rather well, with a strange mix of an arcade and simulation feel. Graphically, the game lacked a bit of polish as various missions showed a lot of seams in the polygon maps. One nice aspect were the replays shown after finishing the mission (or getting killed for that matter). The game itself though was a bit on the dull side. Unfortunately, the mix of the arcade and sim feels doesn't work well, as it doesn't satisfy the shooter cravings of the arcade-style fan, and it won't satisfy the cravings for extreme details that a sim fan needs.
Hopefully Titus can polish this game up a bit before releasing it on the GameCube later this year.
