Majesco Files Patents for Compression Technologies for Handheld Devices

EDISON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 2004--Majesco (OTCBB: MJSH), a publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment products, today announced it has filed five patents for compression technologies related to the creation and playback of video for handheld devices. By improving on state-of-the-art video compression technologies, Majesco is able to bring video playback to platforms that have never been able to support this capability.

"We are excited and optimistic about the range of opportunities this technology offers," commented Jesse Sutton, CEO of Majesco. "We are now able to bring television and film content to the consumer on devices that were originally designed for games, like the Nintendo Game Boy(R) Advance. This means the more than 30 million Game Boy(R) Advance and Game Boy(R) Advance SP users in North America and Europe can now play videos on their favorite handheld device."

"Majesco's proprietary technologies allow for full 'DVD-like' control of the video," Mr. Sutton continued. "Consumers have grown accustomed to the rich features on DVDs such as fast-forward, rewind, animated chapter menus and instant chapter skip. Our technology brings that same set of features to small handheld devices that use ROM cartridges instead of optical disks."

"The real benefit of this technology is its extraordinary compression capabilities," said Kevin Ray, Chief Technology Officer of Majesco. "We're taking 45 minutes of video - which is around 2,500 megabytes uncompressed - and we're squeezing that into a container that can hold 32 megabytes."

Scheduled to hit stores this spring, enthusiastic feedback from several major retail partners for Majesco's Game Boy Advance Video product catalog indicates initial orders could surpass one million units.

You'd think they'd've done that before they announced it.
