Nintendo's official report details the game designer's visit to the Nintendo World Store in support of Nintendogs-mania.

Hard-Core Nintendo Fans Wait Two Days as Nintendogs Takes on New York

Miyamoto Visits Nintendo World Store, Unlocks Secret Breed

REDMOND, Wash., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- This weekend Nintendo hosted two

major Nintendogs(TM) events in New York. On Sunday, some 1,500 people lined

up at the Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Center to meet legendary

Nintendo video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. Dedicated fans staked out the

first spots in line as early as 2:30 a.m. Friday -- more than two days

before the event began. Some came specifically for the event from as far

away as France, Canada and South Carolina, and eventually the line wrapped

around several city blocks.

Miyamoto signed T-shirts, current and classic video games and consoles

ranging from the original Nintendo Entertainment System® to Nintendo

GameCube(TM). While only the first 200 people were guaranteed a meeting with

Miyamoto, hundreds of others received a special gift from him as he unlocked

the secret Jack Russell terrier breed in Nintendogs and shared his trainer

information. The special feature moved from person to person through the

line via the wireless abilities of the Nintendo DS(TM). Owners also were

able to share a special voice message from Napoleon Dynamite actress Haylie

Duff.

On Saturday, a dozen real-life pooches changed the catwalk into a dogwalk as

they showcased the latest in puppywear in the Nintendogs Doggy Fashion Show

in Riverside Park. The clothes were the creations of Little Lilly, designer

to the stars' dogs. A few of the dogs were available for adoption through

the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which

received dozens of adoption inquiries and multiple donations.

"It's no secret that Nintendo has the best, most loyal fans in the world,"

said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of

sales & marketing, who also met with fans at both events. "These events

demonstrated that Nintendogs has huge momentum to carry it through the

holidays."

The smash-hit Nintendogs already has sold more than 1.5 million units

worldwide. Nintendogs, made exclusively for Nintendo DS, went on sale in the

United States on Aug. 22 and became an instant sensation. The week of Sept.

5, Nintendogs even was the subject of a weeklong plotline in the popular

syndicated comic strip "FoxTrot." Retailers nationwide are reporting

shortages, although Nintendo ensures new puppy litters are on their way.

Consumers who don't live in the New York area will get a chance to receive

the special Haylie Duff message and virtual gift at events in the future.

Boy do I hope Miyamoto and his wife had a good laugh at this guy at the end of the day. Did you notice his and her facial expressions on this guy? LOL, Miyamoto thinks "Is this guy retarded or what?!", and Mrs. Miyamoto thinks "oh please honey don't use your new toy, the nanchuck(sp?), on this guy!"

vuduSeptember 28, 2005

I thought that was just his translator, not his wife.

RennySeptember 28, 2005

I thought Bill Trinen was the translator. I think the woman is his escort.

He drew a cock on the PSP's screen, right?

PJ gamer10September 28, 2005

I'm in one of those pictures! The guy minish cap was really awesome and looked great in person, but he was kind of a showboat walkin up and down the line many times just looking for the attention, which of course he got. The guy who took the pics is the guy pointing to Reggie in one of the pics. It was an awesome experience and Miyamoto was so generous and really seemed greatful for the fans reaction to him.

NephilimSeptember 28, 2005

Did he really get him to sign it, or was he just playing his psp in line and it didnt fit in his pocket?
Anyway thats a cool raggae cap, Wish I knew someone with those knitting skills

mantidorSeptember 28, 2005

He shouldve written right in the middle of the psp screen something like " Nice try, Ken. Better luck next time with your fragile and overpriced (not to mentioned outsold by our DS) hardware. <3 Miyamoto"

KDR_11kSeptember 28, 2005

"Can you sign my PSP?"
"Um, yeah, but what does it have to do with Nintendo?"
"I have all your games on the memorystick, see?"

Hostile CreationSeptember 28, 2005

First off, that hat is awesome.
Secondly, I once said I'd never camp out for something, just to ensure my getting to see it, but I think it'd be damn awesome to do it there. Not just to see Miyamoto, which would be great, but to play and talk with all of those Nintendo fans.
Bill Trinen is also incredibly cool. I'd get him to sign something, too. And the woman, just for the hell of it face-icon-small-tongue.gif

Terranigma FreakSeptember 29, 2005

It was a success... only for those bastards who got the forking sigs. You know that dog show last saturday? My friend's sister went, and got a backstage meeting with Miyamoto ALL TO HERSELF!!! Well, there were other kids, but just little kids. Her brother went with me during Sunday so neither of us got to see him, but unlike me, he still managed to get a Miyamoto sig on his DS because his sister met him the day before.

vuduSeptember 29, 2005

I read somewhere else that Miyamoto politely declined to sign the PSP so the guy put it away and got him to sign his DS.
