Sadly, it's a 12-sided dice.

It's RetroActive time, and we're all rolling dice to see who gets to wear the Crimson Shroud. It turns out that all of James' squawking that "it's pretty short" didn't really matter since the crew didn't finish it either, but hey we still spend a solid hour breaking down a seven hour game. That's a huge time savings for you! There is a general consensus that Lippi sucks, the game is slow, and that we're all happy that the power of friendship is nowhere to be found.

After the break we take a look at the contents of Nintendo's Indie World video presentation and jump into a shallow pool of New Business. Jon's playing the Sega Ages port of Space Harrier, and provides us some examples of what we're calling the "dick punch" sound. Guillaume, back from his vacation, has spent a whole lot of time with the GBA port of Final Fantasy. He's also the only one of us to have taken a look at the demo for Dragon Quest XI S. You can get the demo now, and put an early dent in the September gaming backlog.

You can send your emails to us, and we will butcher them.

Talkback

Having joined the RetroActive play through late, I'm about an hour away from finishing a re-play of Crimson Shroud. Despite only starting last week's podcast today, I'm really excited to jump ahead to this week's recording and hear your thoughts about the game!

To me, Chrimson Shroud still feels like a glorified demo - an interesting idea that hasn't been fleshed out or balanced fully. But it leaves me wanting something more in the same style. Even if that does mean a visual novel with RPG trappings and some set piece battles rather than a real role-playing game.

Also, not sure what's wrong with your Lippi, but in my game he's been kicking ass. (I guess that it helps to have a majorly upgraded bow after grinding so long for that damn rare drop, and some skills that help boost damage?)

I managed to get Lippi good by combining composite bows over and over, so it was like +7. Although Frea for me was useless in 95% of the battles.

Initially I had Freya on the offensive using magical attacks, but later found that swapping her to support (healing and buffs/debuffs) ended up having a better overall effect. Gotta admit though, making her a magical badass who would rip through enemies was more enjoyable... you don't really have a lot of control over equipment and abilities though, so might have to take what you can get.
