Radix37, we salute you!

A genuinely talented guy, going by the name of Radix37, over at the PlanetQuake Speed Demo Archive has managed to achieve 100% completion of Metroid Prime in just 1hr 37m. Yep, you read that right.

It's a truly magnificent feat, and the icing on the cake is that Radix has uploaded movies (15 to be precise) of his entire run for you to marvel at. If you want to check them out, head on over to http://planetquake.com/sda/mp/.

Jeez, I beat it in 18 hours with a 92 percent completion...I just can't fathom that time. =)

KnowsNothingNovember 11, 2003

=0 Crap. I haven't even beat MP yet.

1 hour 37 min? I didn't think that was possible....I might have to watch those movies to see his secret.

Bill AurionNovember 11, 2003

I don't even bother speeding through a game...I take my time soaking in the ambiance...face-icon-small-happy.gif

Oh, and a way to chop off a whole lot of time is to get the Jump boots when you land on Tallon...Yes, you can get them right off the bat ^_^

vuduNovember 11, 2003

holy crap. it took me a half hour just to get to tallon.

CaseyRybackNovember 11, 2003

I am at 17 percent with 1 hr 37 min on hard so I can see how it is possible when you know where stuff is(unlike me)

I have played the game before but it was a long time ago so it takes me awhile to get where I need to go. Rushing is always fun in a Metroid game(its the only reason I still bust out Super Metroid is to see if I can beat my old time)

He does deserve props for his actions

It's incredible the amount of imperfections in this game that they have found just in order to pass it 100% in 1h37m. Now the question is how much time did he spend planning every move?

GaimeGuyNovember 11, 2003

O_O

He really should send that movie into Twin Galaxies. I checked their website and there's currently no record listed for Metroid Prime (the categories they have are "Completion" and "100% Completion" (all items/weapons).

i hate doing fast time things like this. It completely ruins a game for me.

I dont remeber finding any ways to get stuff b4 your actually suppose to in mp? in super metroid for snes tho i found like thousands using the wall jump lol.

anyway I beat mp at like 70% then I just stoped playing. I hated the fact that I had to scan everything. if i did not have to scan it would of been more fun to get 100%

I'm sure the guy has finished the game more than once.

OO7craftNovember 11, 2003

OMG I just Watched some of his videos.. hes a CHEATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well sorta... see he saves at certain points. and his videos are broken into parts which shows him back on the menu a bunch of times. he plays 1 "section" of the game probly 2-3 times over and over again untill he gets his fastest time, upon which he saves to his memory card file that he working on for the fast time.

I guess this isnt really cheating but hes deffenitly not doing this in under 2 hours strait. Too get that fast time im sure he had to replay quite a few sections many times to get it so perfect. Congrats to him for getting the time but I would like to know how long he spent getting it? im guessing 5-10 hours?

DjunknownNovember 11, 2003

That's probably why Twin Galaxies didn't pick this one up. Its still a great feat nonetheless, one that requires meticulous planning. Planning that could almost be considered...abnormal.

Anyway, it just shows Metroid Primes verstility. You think you played out...but you have no idea!

ghostViNovember 12, 2003

It took the guy 3 months to do it, that's what he sais on the site... I wouldn't count it as a cheat that he saves and replays. Doing it all in one run, no saves, sounds more like a whole new category of speed runs IMHO.

It's fun watching it though, it's better than The Matrix face-icon-small-wink.gif And yes, the guy shows several times how to get items before you are supposed to, things like the space jump boots, missiles, and the plasma gun.

I've been hearing this guy b**** about it in the #metroid chat for..about 3 month's now, I stopped paying attention to it, because I was in a state of denial. Then HE ACTUALLY DID IT. I've been watching those videos, WOW, those things are amazing, it makes me want to go and play prime multiple times, just so i can get some of the skills he uses like nothing down.
-If it makes you feel better, a few of those videos he had to do over 50 runs just to get them right, so It REALLY DID take skill, the final version just makes you go "WOW" though.

Watch them if you have bandwith, its definately worth it.

The saving thing actually ADDED time to his scores, think about it.. its maybe 5 seconds in/5 seconds out, and I've seen about 2 minutes worth of mistakes so far. I belive this is possible under 1:30 if your a god.

ThippyNovember 12, 2003

1:37? Whatever, I bet I could still school his ass at Tetris. Booyah!!
