Under the new Infogrames publishing agreement, the first game based on The Matrix has a new name and a new launch date.
Shiny Entertainment's first game based on The Matrix, now being published by Infogrames, has undergone a couple of slight changes since last we heard about it. First, the game has a new name: Enter the Matrix. Apparently it is still based on the second movie though, The Matrix Reloaded.
Second, and more important, is the news that all four versions of the game (GameCube, PS2, Xbox, and PC) will be released simultaneously in May 2003. When the game was to be published by Interplay prior to the Shiny deal last month, Microsoft had secured an exclusivity deal in which the first Matrix game would be released on Xbox first and would include some exclusive features, including online play. Whether the latter provisions are still effective remains to be seen, but if part of the agreement has been dissolved, it stands to reason that the rest of it may have been dissolved too. Regardless, fans of both The Matrix and GameCube will, at the very least, get equal treatment in terms of the game's launch date.
