Playable Cube Kiosks Arriving at Last!

by Max Lake - October 31, 2001, 1:36 am EST

We’ve just got first word that GameCube kiosks are hitting stores. Updated! We’ve got a full list of the kiosk contents!

Some time ago, PGC had heard playable kiosks would appear in late September. Some video displays of GameCube have shown up, but outside of the Cube Clubs, nothing has been playable yet. According to TendoNext, Toys R Us have reported that they expected kiosks around November 1st. This date seems to be solid, as we have just received word of a playable GameCube display. More will undoubtedly follow in the days to come. Instead of having just any singular game playable, the kiosk runs a demo disc with Luigi’s Mansion, Rogue Leader and Wave Race: Blue Storm all playable and a movie you can watch too.

Thanks to PGC reader Jeremy, who sent in this email:

Just thought I'd let you know that our Walmart here in Mattoon Ill just got the Gamecube in to play. It has a demo disk with three game to choose from, Rogue Squadron, Luigi Mansion, and Wave Race. It also has movie you can watch. Rogue Squadron is awesome. -Jeremy

Keep your eyes peeled for playable GameCube displays; they could be hitting a store near you at any moment.

UPDATE:

Brent DeGraaf of Canton, MI wrote in to confirm our report that GameCube kiosks are appearing and wrote in to give us a full list of the contents. Take a look!

Target stores around the metro Detroit area added the Gamecube to their kiosks, as well as showing Gamecube footage on all the video monitors in the store peridically. I was just in there and had to pry the controller out of one of the store employee's hands.

Demo disk features:

Playable Luigi's Mansion (will reset automatically just a little ways into the main game)

Playable Rogue Squadron

Playable WaveRace Blue Storm

- plus -

Movie: Luigi's Mansion

Movie: Rogue Squadron

Movie: Waverace

Movie: Pikmin (has some new footage)

Movie: Super Smash Bros. Melee

Oh, and by the way, the good Doctor's name in the english version of Luigi's Mansion is Dr. E. Gadd.
