PGC Invades Microsoft's Booth!

by Justin Wood - May 20, 2001, 11:55 pm EDT

Justin Wood snuck into the Xbox booth for a little fun at Mr. Gates expense!

Though I buy most systems that come out, Nintendo has always been my favorite.

Microsoft kind of put me off by their "assumption" that they could just waltz in and take over the console industry as they have everything else. I've also been disturbed by the lack of innovation surrounding the platform. One look at the controller will tell you that MS isn't generating many original ideas.

Despite my initial misgivings about Microsoft I went in to E3 with an open mind, hoping there would be something there at the Xbox booth to blow me away.

While the games didn't blow me away by any stretch of the imagination, one site in their booth did.

It seems that Mr. Gates doesn't have much faith in the quality of the Xbox's construction. They had a nice big poster in their merchandising section proudly displaying their Xbox repair number! I found this particularly amusing.

These things keep breaking!

That certainly doesn't leave a sense of confindence about Microsofts big black box.

Now I was feeling just a tad mischevious. So I brought out my trusty and much beloved Nintendo GameCube bag and proudly displayed it in the booth for all to see.

I just couldn't resist!

It was great seeing the reps reactions to that one!

It's hard to understand the sheer size of Microsoft's black box unless you see it in person. But, to help demonstrate its large size, I slapped Nintendo's purple cube next to Microsoft's black box.

It's HUGE!!!

As you can see, there is quite a difference in size! I should point out however, the GameCube in the picture is really a miniture foam rubber version that was handed out by Nintendo reps at the show. You CAN just about fit 4 'real' GameCube systems inside the space of the Xbox!

All in all my mischeif at the Xbox booth was just in good fun. No harm was meant.

At least now I know that Nintendo really has nothing to fear from Mr. Gates BIG black box.
