GBA Pre-Orders are being Halted!

by Max Lake - May 8, 2001, 11:48 am EDT

Many retailers are discontinuing pre-orders as the demand is quickly surpasses supply of units allocated the U.S. launch.

Just after the first GBA commercials are hitting the airwaves, it seems that the hype for the system has already put it in short supply at several retailers. What follows has been said in previous retail reports & is no doubt happening with increasing frequency all over the U.S.

From Tampa, Florida, here’s “Zelda1312!”

Zelda1312 says: Hey Max, this is Zelda1312. I just wanted to let you know that pre-orders for the GBA in my area, Tampa, FL, have been stopped. They've also stopped advertising them as well. When I asked at my local Wal-Mart they told me it was because they have taken so many pre-orders already and they had to take the slips down because they couldn't guarantee that they would be able to meet the demand if more people pre-ordered. Luckily, I pre-ordered my Glacier GBA 2 weeks ago, so I'm safe. I don't know how the situation is elsewhere, but it seems to be a common thing, and demand for GBA will likely increase as more media coverage of the system comes out during E3. Hope everyone out there that wanted to pre-order did so!

With word that Australia will now be getting allocated units and the U.S. launch drawing ever closer… Well, this is pretty relevant stuff –especially if you’re dead-set on getting a GBA for launch. If you haven’t pre-ordered yet, ya better get moving.
