Sonic on GBC. Right?

Segadojo has some astonishing news about a certain blue hedgehog on Game Boy Color. Huh? Could it be true?

Our buddies at Segadojo put up a story that, erm, follows here.

According to speculation from UK's The Guardian newspaper, our beloved little blue hedgehog might be seeing a release on Nintendo's Game Boy Color. In fact, they expect Sega to make an announcement on the matter as early as next week. The game would be a port of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, released on the Sega Genesis in the early 1991. To further fuel the fire, the British publication Metro is stating more or less that this portable port is more or less confirmed.

We've already seen Sonic hit SNK's ill-fated Neo Geo Pocket Color, and Sega has stated in the past that they have no fear of porting Sega games to the handheld market, for the handheld/console markets are so different, and appeal to different types of gamers. Plus, it's an extra buck in Sega's pocket.

We await a confirmation or denial of this rumor from Sega themeselves, and we really can't second guess what the final results will be. But heck, I'd buy Sonic for my Game Boy Color. How about you?

While we're at it, here's the original article from The Guardian.
