Remember that "Developer Conference" that Michael Rubinelli of THQ mentioned a little while back at IGNCube? Well the boys over there have shed some more light on this mysterious event.

Evidently Nintendo has a date in late November in mind, although there is no day set in stone. Here's was IGNCube had to say about it:

Last week THQ's vice president of product development Michael Rubinelli confirmed to IGNcube that Nintendo was planning developers conference focused on Gamecube in the same vein of the Game Boy Advance Developers Conference, for the not too distant future. Since then more details have come to light on the situation.

We now know that there is no official date set for the Gamecube Developers Conference. Evidently a tentative push for a late November event is planned, but Nintendo hasn't set anything in stone yet because it is waiting on its revised development hardware to be ready. The plan, say sources, is to gather the software community together at Nintendo's Seattle, Washington based offices, pitch third-parties on the Gamecube hardware, and then close the deal by shipping finalized development kits running at full speed to whoever is interested.

Nintendo's philosophy here differs from Sony's greatly, which shipped PS2 development kits running at half-speed to game companies a whole five months before they received finalized hardware running at proper speed. The Big N hopes that the powerful Gamecube hardware combined with the documented ease of development, and full-blown, ready to go kits, will wow software firms into creating games for its console. Whether or not this will ultimately prove successful remains to be seen, but it's certainly a good start and the first sign that Nintendo is gearing up its resources for the next-generation.
