Nintendo announced in a press release that during the month of March, they led all console sales during that month.

According to independent weekly sales data from the NPD Group, the Nintendo 64 captured 46 percent of all console sales in America since the March 6 launch of the 'Funtastic' series of systems, as compared to 43 percent for the Sony PlayStation, and 11 percent for the Sega Dreamcast. Nintendo also claims the individual top-selling console and handheld games.

The Internet is far from being the only advertising platform, and this proves what an effect sales effort directly at the retail level can have on sales. TV and magazine ads count for a lot, but there are still a great amount of consumers who make purchases just on what they see on the shelves. 12 year old kids still go to Toys-R-Us, and drool at what is on the shelves, then convince their parents to buy them for them. Funky colors are still cool to certain demograpics.

What's your color? I'm a "Fire", according to Nintendo's online personality test .. but I kind of like "Grape" better.
