Dibs on the former Sonics and their damn MVP.

Arcade basketball will be hitting the Switch in the midst of the NBA playoffs.

Saber Interactive has picked up the NBA license for NBA Playgrounds, a 2-on-2 arcade hoops title which will launch on Switch next month for $20. The game will feature current stars and legendary former players such as Allen Iverson.

The game will support local play for up to 4 players as well as online play.

Talkback

Oh, I can feel the NBA Jam on the SNES blood starting to pump once again. :)

Online play? Oh boy I like this. I really hope they nail that classic NBA Street/Jam gameplay though. I pray it doesn't suck.

There has got to be a better name than Playgrounds.

This is what I think of when I think video games and playgrounds

I'm as interested in seeing the playground locations. The last NBA game I played was NBA2K2 and I played it almost entirely in streetball mode. I'm a little worried. That first location in the video evokes NYC architecture, but the court itself looks like an amalgamation of Rucker and the Cage. Hopefully it's just a different location.

Those two are a must, and 16th and Susquehanna in Philadelphia would be a huge bonus. I'm a little hopeful for the latter, because I saw an image online (can't remember if it's in the trailer) of Wilt in his old Philadelphia Warriors uniform. I also recognized what might be Venice Beach, but I've never been to that court. Another image looks like it has the London Eye in the background, which after googling, I suspect is from the Nike Court on the River Thames.

NBA Jam on the PS360 never got a sequel, and it was really good.  Hoping this fills that void.

One of the best things about this announcement is that it's at such a good pricepoint.  If I drop $20 and it ends up being junk, I'll at least have not wasted full retail on a genre of game I'm not necessarily normally enthused out of besides NBA Jam.

This looks subpar. Can we just have a new NBA Jam plz?

I like NBA Jam, but I LOVE NBA Street!
I hope this game is really good.

NBA Jam on the PS3 actually DID get a sequel. It was called NBA Jam: On Fire Edition. It Just didn't get a physical release

On Fire wasn't a sequel, it was an enhanced edition of the the previous game (think of it like a directors cut).
