And some new functionality for the Virtual Console titles

The trademarks yesterday were legitimate: Pokémon Sun and Moon will hit the 3DS this year.

The newest Pokémon titles were announced for a holiday 2016 release worldwide, and have added simplified and traditional Chinese to the existing language options for the game.

Pokémon Sun and Moon will also support the receipt of Pokémon caught in the Virtual Console releases of Red, Blue and Yellow versions through Pokémon Bank.

Nice to have the game confirmed for this year, but I dont even play pokemon, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm a grown man and I swear I didn't cry.

NullNoMoreFebruary 26, 2016

While I was wiping my strangely damp eyes, a voice from the couch piped, "I call Moon." Which means Eldest Child will be getting Sun.  The battle lines in my house have been drawn.

TheBigKFebruary 26, 2016

Yeah, okay. But what about Pokémon Z?? Did those Zygarde forms in Coro Coro really amount to nothing game related? What about the XYZ anime? Is that really not going to be tied to anything? Is this Gen VII now or will it somehow tie into X and Y? I'm profoundly confused.

Ian SaneFebruary 26, 2016

Why does anyone want Pokémon Z?  I always thought games like Crystal and Emerald were rip-offs designed to get people to double-dip.  Why would anyone WANT to be a sucker?  Nintendo doing away with the slightly improved third version after the fact is great!  Now you buy the new game when it comes out and you have the best version without having to buy another game that is barely different a year later.  Besides the updates they include in those third versions could be handled by DLC these days anyway.

It would be nice however if we got a little more info on Sun/Moon other than it comes out in 2016 and has Chinese as a language option.

The JRPG buffet on the 3DS is capped off with a new set of Pokemon games. BEAUTIFUL.

At first I TOTALLY wasn't impressed by the idea of a whole new Pokemon game, and rereleases of the first generation, but to hear that I can use Pokemon Bank to bring some Gen 1 Bug Pokemon to Sun or Moon? I'M BACK IN THE GAME!

Seriously, they never make enough Bug pokemon in a single generation for me to have some good choice for a Bug-themed Poketeam. I can't believe Nintendo is getting me to spend even more money now... @_@

1.  Yay, we have Gen 7 coming during the anniversary year.
2.  With Red/Blue/Yellow getting Pokémon Bank support...
a.)  I'll be curious to see their natures/abilities when transferred over to Sun/Moon.
b.)  Easy legendary bird catching/leveling, since we've got unlimited Master Balls/Rare Candies.  Thanks, Missing No!
c.)  I wonder if Pokémon GO will also have benefits connected to Sun/Moon.
3.  With enhanced sequels fulfilling the "iPhone S" role of testing new ideas, "third entries" are no longer necessary outside of story reasons (Black 2/White 2).  The lack of Z is understandable, and I'm sure those Zygarde forms will surface in Sun/Moon.

One more thing:  That Snorlax pillow.  I need it.

Item transfer isn't easily done via Pokebank, is it? To be honest, I haven't used the service much. But your first point (or should I say, first sub-point in your second point) is what interests me. I worry that it will be a total crapshoot.

Why is anyone surprised that there is no Pokemon Z? Black and White didn't get a 3rd version either. So maybe now that both Generation V and VI didn't get 3rd versions, maybe people won't be asking for a "Pokemon Earth" in a couple of years.

Dare I ask how Black 2 and White 2 isn't a remix of Black and White?

Trading Pokemon from Gen I to Gen VII?

Hear that banging? That's the last nail in the coffin of the shit sandwich that was Gen III

I was thinking Pokemon Star but I guess Earth works too.

Nice to see the VC titles have Pokemon Bank support. Hope they strike while the irons hot and do Gen 2 as well.

Hoping the engine is smooth in these new games, I wouldn't mind the camera becoming even lower too. I want to eventually get to that behind the back sorta view in a mainline game.

I also don't know why anyone would want a third version in place of a brand new adventure.

WahFebruary 27, 2016

Pokemon S&M!
lol

A Rainbow of Pokemon fun for everyone!

If they really wanted to send my nostalgia into overdrive, they would do Gold ad Silver as well. God, the feel of those games is still fresh in my mind.

I kinda hope they adjust some of the more absurd level based evolutions from Black and White (Looking at you Larvesta).

WahMarch 09, 2016

Gen III was the best for Pokémon design, the asylum. If want to talk about Pokémon, Gen 5 clearly sucks big fat Snorlax balls. Name one bad Gen 3 Pokémon come on I dare you and I'll give you 20 bad gen 5 Pokémon.

Luvdisc, spinda, Plusle, Minun, Volbeat, Illumise, Castform, Swalot, Gulpin, Delcatty- oh, I think you ran out of gen 5 pokemon :smug:

WahMarch 09, 2016

lol

First Nintendo does Pokémon (se)XY and now it's Pokémon S&M. We've got a serious case of the seduction of the innocent happening here! Won't someone please think of the children?

Evan_BMarch 09, 2016

Dude, Spinda? Really?

nickmitchMarch 09, 2016

Gen III sux, and everyone knows it.  Gamefreak really had a return to form when they made Gen IV though.  Gen IV is the best gen hands down, no argument.

Anyway, I think it's interesting that the Gen I Pokemon can only go to the new gen.  One of the things that prevented inter-generational trading was Pokemon having HMs.  I'm wonder if that's related?  There's no move deleter in Gen I, so they probably had to do a fix for Pokemon Bank.  But are they doing something different with HMs in the new games?

Evan_BMarch 10, 2016

I honestly hope that transferred Pokemon have perfect IVs. That would be such a great incentive to use the VC versions.
